HTP Presents Comic Reading with Off-Broadway Actor |
The Henlopen Theater Project will present two readings of David Sedaris comic monologue Santaland Diaries on Sunday December 2 at Dogfish Head Restaurant. The play, adapted from one of Sedaris' short stories by TONY award winning actor/director Joe Mantello, recounts the authors experience as an elf at the infamous Macy's department store Santaland. The readings will be performed by actor, Erik Jensen. Jensen has appeared in several commercials and movies, including the soon to be released comedy, The Black Knight. He also appeared in The Love Letter with Ellen Degeneres, and produced by Stephen Spielberg. Jensen also appeared Off-Broadway in Terrance McNalley's controversial Corpus Christie, and the thriller Y2K. HTP executive director, James FitzSimmons has worked with Jensen on several occasions and says he has "wonderful comic timing, perfect for the play. There's something incredibly quirky yet warm." FitzSimmons calls the Santaland Diaries "extremely funny with a delightful twist at the end, returning us to the true meaning of Christmas, perfect for the holidays." David Sedaris is the popular author of Barrel Fever, Naked and the current bestseller, Me Talk Pretty One Day. He is also a frequent contributor to WNPR. Sedaris has been called "A caustic mix of J.D. Salinger and John Waters." Performances will take place upstairs at Dogfish Head Restaurant, 320 Rehoboth Avenue. Show times are 5 p.m. and 8:30 p.m., and Dogfish Head is offering a 15% discount on dinner for the Sunday performances with a Santaland ticket stub. It is recommended that reservations be made early since seating is limited. All proceeds from the event will benefit the Henlopen Theater Project. HTP is lower Delaware's only Equity affiliated arts organization, with a mission to present professional equity productions and provide extensive educational programming.
