Speak Out |
Thank you for your participation in our not-for-profit 50/50 program associated with Raffle 2001 campaign. House with a Heart Foundation is pleased that we are able to provide an opportunity for you to raise funds for your organization's various projects. The 2001 House Raffle was a tremendous success. With your help, House with a Heart raised $400,000 to help the homeless. Participating organizations did an outstanding job in selling tickets. This year, 50/50 participants raised $83,860. Raffle sales from your organization totaled $490. CAMP Rehoboth is entitled to 50% of your total ticket sales, which is $245.00. I hope you found this special joint project beneficial to your organization and I look forward to your participation again in next year's raffle. Carleen Kramer House with a Heart Foundation, Inc. Looking through the October 25 issue of Metro Weekly, we're reminded of two very important things: Saturday, October 20th was an amazing afternoon, and we owe a lot to our supportive guests. We think you will agree this year's Colors of Fall event was the best in its five-year history. The decision to take the dance floor outside came with risks, but the payoff was worth it. And our decision to invite Warren Gluck to serve as the music master was right on the money; he did not disappoint. We are of course thrilled that Velvet Nation again agreed to serve as the official post-Colors party. DJ Manny Lehman turned out another great performance that had us dancing until the early morning hours. A big thank you to John Guggenmos for his continued support of Colors. And at our first Colors Tea on Sunday, Brian Springer's high-energy set kept us dancing long after we thought we had anything left to give. A big thank you to Mark Lee and his team at Lizard Lounge. Last but not least, we are pleased to announce that because of the overwhelming success of Colors, we will be making a $3,000 contribution each to GLSEN (www.glsen.org) and SMYAL (www.smyal.org). We feel strongly about the need to educate our youth and to ensure schools are safe for gay and lesbian kids. GLSEN and SMYAL are dedicated to those causes. Again, thank you for your continued support of Colors. We wish you and your families a wonderful holiday season. Jason Smith and Craig Schwartz We are resuming our monthly meetings to gear up for our push for HB 99 inJanuary. As you recall, the Delaware State Senate will hold a Small Business Committee hearing on our gay anti-discrimination bill, which has already passed in the House but was bottled up in senate committee. The promised hearing does not, however, guarantee a vote out of committee, so lobbying the committee members, the senate president pro tem and the other senators is absolutely crucial! We all can and should be doing that now and on an ongoing basis, but to maximize our efforts, be part of our planned system of consistent lobbying and be up on the latest developments, we need to turn out for the monthly meetings. Meeting location, day and time remain the same: 730 p.m. on the 3rd Monday of every month at St. Peter's (Episcopal) parish hall, 2nd and Mulberry Streets, Lewes, Delaware. Please bring someone with you, especially those without email by which this message is being sent. Kent County residents are warmly invited and encouraged to attend these Sussex meetings and to respond to Sussex action alerts, since there is currently no operational Kent County Project group. We look forward to seeing you on Nov. 19! Toward equality, Doug & Corey Marshall-Steele Co-coordinators, The Project |
