LETTERS From CAMP Rehoboth

Art League to host music of the Stage Door Canteen

A nostalgic and upbeat musical revue featuring the sounds and songs of the 1940s will come to town on Oct. 6 and 7 for three performances only at the Chambers Studio at the Rehoboth Art League. Spotlighting a trio of professional musical comedy performers, the show is a memorable collection of musical numbers made famous on the home front during World War II.

From the Andrews Sisters to Bing and Bob; the White Cliffs of Dover to Rosie the Riveter, this stage door canteen will feature classics of the era as well as some surprisingly humorous and heartfelt moments.

Starring Margaret Allman, Hans Bachmann and Eric C. Peterson, Razzle Dazzle's Stage Door Canteen honors "the greatest generation" and pays homage to its swing-era music in a warm-hearted and fast-paced cabaret performance.

The show, produced by Fay J. Productions, in partnership with the Rehoboth Art League, will have performances at 7 and 9:30 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 6, with a 2 p.m. matinee on Sunday, Oct. 7.

The performers, collectively known as Razzle Dazzle, were first seen on stage locally three years ago in Lewes playing to sold out houses and rave reviews. Now the troupe is back at the beach with this brand new musical revue and a new home at the Art League's intimate Chambers Studio theater.

The show is directed by Fay Jacobs whose theatrical resume includes more than 25 years of professional productions in the Washington, D.C. area. Jacobs was last represented at the beach with February's sold-out run of Shirley Valentine at the Art League. She also directed Love Letters, in February 2000 at the Art League. Eric Peterson, who will be on stage Oct. 6 and 7, co-starred in Love Letters as well. Audiences may remember all three performers from their appearances at the Sundance Auction over the past several years.

"Our production of Shirley Valentine was sold out in advance," says Art League Executive Director Nancy Alexander, "and reservations are already coming in for this musical revue from the listing in the Art League calendar."

Tickets for Razzle Dazzle's Stage Door Canteen are $12 and may be reserved by calling the Art league at 302-227-8408.
