CAMP Rehoboth Community Center Founder's Circle Update |
by Andrea Andrus |
Friendship and Community Friendship is much more than making someone's acquaintance and it is much more than just affection. It arises out of mutual interests and common goals. Friendship in the largest sense of the word is community. We all are hungry for an inclusive and supportive community that gives us a sense of belonging. Within that community are friends who share values and concerns and who help each other however they can. All are welcome and no one is left out. Real communities work, play and celebrate together. CAMP Rehoboth has been a friend to the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgendered community and the community-at-large for over 12 years. Our mission has been and will continue to be to welcome and celebrate individual differences. In today's world of chaos and unrest, it is rare to feel safe. CAMP has worked diligently over the years to give all of us a feeling of safety and protection and a place, even in its smallest office space, to call home. Being part of a community is being willing to listen to each other. For the past 12 years, Murray, Steve and the rest of the CAMP staff have put much time and energy into listening to your ideas and concerns. When there has been unrest in our community, they have gone the extra mile to resolve differences with a view to the greater good. That greater good is a community that gives each of us a safe place, friendships, and an outlet to do good work. The Founders' Circle Capital Campaign evolved from members of our community who voiced a need for a full-service community center that would serve the needs of all and bring us together in harmony. As we approach Labor Day weekend and Sundance, CAMP Rehoboth's major fundraising event for the year, think back on how CAMP Rehoboth has been part of your life this summer season. From stopping into the CAMP office for a friendly hello or to chat, to having a fabulous time at one of the many CAMP summer events, we have been here promoting community well being and a positive environment. As CAMP Rehoboth works to build a safe, inclusive community with room for all, please join us in this exciting and meaningful endeavor. Get out there and help build community by joining the 202 members of the Founders' Circle Capital Campaign (page 54). Founders' Circle members are earth's angels who commit their friendship, their resources and their time as proud and strong members of our community. We can never thank them enough! Fall is the time of year when we all begin thinking about preparing our annual tax returns. Make one more tax-deductible contribution that truly makes a differencethe CAMP Rehoboth Founders' Circle Capital Campaign. CAMP Rehoboth is a 501(c)(3) organization and contributions are tax deductible to the fullest extent of the law. Simply fill out the pledge form in this issue of Letters and indicate your preferred membership level. You may also give a gift of real estate or appreciated stock as your pledge. For those of you who work for companies with matching gift programs, it's a great way to pledge at a higher level and only assume half of the cost of your pledge. Don't forget that, at every membership level, your name or the name of a loved one will be inscribed in our official Founders' Circle records and, depending on your level, on an actual part of the Community Center (a brick, a tile, a door or a room). Your name makes a statement about your commitment to the Center and to your community. In addition, you also get cool member gifts. Memberships also make great gifts to family and friends. To date, we have raised $540,978 in member pledges toward our five-year capital campaign goal of $1,000,000. Friendship and community have helped us reach part of our goal in the third year of the campaign. We know that friendship and community will indeed help us successfully reach our goal.
