CAMP Rehoboth Women's Project On The Move |
by Maggie Shaw |
Yes, the CAMP Rehoboth Women's Project is on the move, and it promises to be an exciting year. We are very busy this winter working on our planned events, brainstorming new events, and developing programs to meet the needs of the women in our community. We were astounded at the number of women (and our staunch male supporter, Gene Dvornick) who attended our very successful Volunteer "Meet and Greet" Party held at the CAMP office in January. The comments and feedback were tremendous and will help us as we move forward. Our subcommittees on Finance and Marketing, Fundraising and Special Events, Health Education and Services, Outreach, Volunteers, and the Women's Conference will benefit from the involvement of many attendees who expressed interest in one or more of the committees.
Also in January, we held our first health education and screening session at the CAMP Office on "Smoking Cessation." The "Bone Density " screening February 1, was very well attended and provided much needed education and information. The next session, "Blood Pressure" screening will take place at the CAMP office on Saturday, February 22 from 10 a.m.-12 p.m. We hope to see you there! Planning for our third annual Women's Conference on Health, Financial and Legal issues is well underway. We have made this truly a women's weekend by scheduling events from Friday evening through Sunday afternoon. Suzanne Westenhoefer, a nationally known comedienne who has appeared frequently on HBO, will appear on Friday, April 11, at 8:00 p.m. On Saturday, April 12, from 8:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., the Women's Conference will be held at the Rehoboth Beach Convention Center. From educational and informative sessions on health, financial and legal matters to more diverse and fun workshops, such as "Tool Time 101" and "Swing Dance," there will be something of interest for everyone. On Saturday evening, Olivia recording artists, Barbara Higbie and Teresa Trull, will perform at 8 p.m. We made every attempt to keep ticket prices at an affordable rate to provide an opportunity for everyone in our community to attend. Join us for a relaxing Sunday brunch at Celsius Restaurant after a whirlwind weekend of workshops and entertainment. Come celebrate with the Women's Project! Openings for vendor tables at Saturday's conference are going fast. If you are interested in hosting a display table at the event, please call us at CAMP Rehoboth or stop by to pick up an application form. Vendor tables (6 foot) are available for $25 or at no charge for non-profit organizations. We would like to thank all of our dedicated volunteers who have contributed to the success of the Women's Project since our beginning. Also, we want to thank Girls' Beach Productions for their generous donation to the Women's Project as a result of their successful New Year's Eve Starburst Gayla event. Look for information on upcoming events hosted by the CAMP Rehoboth Women's Project. There is sure to be something for everyone. Your questions, comments and ideas are always welcomed.
