This auction will have some special features, too. First, there will be a specially-commissioned, original painting of the Wilmington Riverfront. Also, the Family Heirloom Program will allow you to purchase a one-of-a-kind portrait of your family, yourself, your pets, or anything you choose. You simply submit a high-quality picture to Marlin Art, and in a few weeks (just in time for the holidays!) you receive a gorgeous, beautifully-framed portrait. The silent auction during preview will feature two Sundance prints, generously donated by Murray Archibald of CAMP Rehoboth, and an original piece by Wilmington artist Michael Foster. This will be a wonderful evening with friends and the community, and you are invited to attend whether or not you intend to purchase any art or even have an interest in art. This is not a high-pressure sales event, so don't feel that you must buy something if you come, although you might be surprised at what you find at the auction, including incredible deals on many art pieces. My partner and I recently attended a Marlin Art auction, and I admit, I did not expect to find any art that caught my eye. We're no art connoisseurs, but we both fell in love with some great, fun things that we asked Marlin to bring to the October 16 art auction, for us to bid on, including some whimsical, modern cat and dog metal sculptures for myself, and some cartoon cells for my partner. Delaware Pride, per its mission statement, "is dedicated to promoting platforms for expressing diversity and creating a more visible and united GLBT community." To this end, the organization sponsors and promotes cultural, social, educational, and recreational events. In 2008, Delaware Pride has planned for the September 13, 2008 twelfth annual Delaware Pride Festival, held monthly meetings and several community potluck dinners, participated in a transgender vigil, brought author Dr. Libby Cone to Delaware for a lecture and book-signing, helped bring political speaker Keith Boykin to the University of Delaware, volunteered monthly at the Food Bank of Delaware, and, along with Nude Rain Productions, crowned the first-ever Pride Idol. The Rainbow Chorale of Delaware is a community chorus providing gay men, lesbians, bisexuals, transgender persons, and their friends and supporters with opportunities to perform choral music in a supportive and affirming environment. The Rainbow Chorale seeks to represent the positive face of Delaware's gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, and straight allies community through high quality musical performance. The Rainbow Chorale puts on several wonderful concerts each year, in both Wilmington and Rehoboth Beach, and has performed around the world by invitation. This coming New Year, the Rainbow Chorale will perform with the Delaware Symphony Orchestra. Businesses, organizations, and even individuals can purchase an advertisement in the art auction program. Advertisement prices range from $25 to $200. For organizations and businesses, it's a great way to get the word out about the services you offer. For individuals, if you cannot attend the auction, it's a great way to support the event, Delaware Pride, and The Rainbow Chorale of Delaware.
