What Is CAMP Rehoboth and the Community Center?
This year is a thrilling time for the CAMP Rehoboth Community Center. Along with the construction of our new building we are beginning the long overdue task of redesigning our web site. Though we are still some months away from the completion of that project, the preparation for it is requiring an intense examination of who we are, what we are, what we do, and what we need to say about ourselves. CAMP Rehoboth is a non-profit, gay and lesbian community service organization, originally developed to "Create A More Positive" relationship among all the people of the Rehoboth Beach area. Over the last 17 years it has grown into a full service community center with a multitude of activities, events, and programs. From our highly visible magazine, Letters from CAMP Rehoboth to the fundraising and partnering it does for other non-profit organizations; CAMP Rehoboth and its Community Center have become a vital part of downtown Rehoboth Beach. While the focus of CAMP Rehoboth continues to be the gay and lesbian community and its relationship to the greater community around it, CAMP Rehoboth has also maintained and strengthened a long tradition of working with all organizationsboth gay and straight. Services provided by CAMP Rehoboth include: Community Space, Meeting Rooms, Public Courtyard Sensitivity Training for City & Park Police Sexual Health Counseling (couples & individuals) Health Testing (partnership/Beebe Medical Center) HIV Prevention, Education & Testing Support Groups Safe Haven for Youth Grief Counseling Public Access Computers Public WiFi Information Resources on Area Services Tourist Information Services Gallery & Performance Space for Artists Partnering with other area non-profits to maximize their fundraising efforts Ticket Sales for Other Organizations Women's Conference and Weekend Promotion for Local Non-profit Events The completion of Phase Two of the CAMP Rehoboth Community Center construction (summer 2008) will provide the large multi-purpose room, kitchen, additional restrooms and workspace needed for the continued growth of the Community Center. Phase Two also includes a new design and complete renovation of the popular CAMP Rehoboth Community Center Courtyard. When fully operational, the new wing of the CAMP Rehoboth Community Center will provide conference and retreat space available to organizations from all over the mid-Atlantic region. |
