SPEAK Out |
Bravo to Sharon Messina, Kit Ryan, the entire CAMP staff, ELBoW Productions and all the volunteers for a wonderful Women's Weekend. There was a veryupbeat feeling among the crowd at the various events. Congratulations for a job well done!
Louisa Watrel I am excited to say that we raised a little over $32,000 at Saturday's Beach Walk! We raised about $20,000 in 2006 and 2007, and our goal this year was $24,000. This will mean offering three free spay/neuter days in Sussex County (one free one for each $10,000 raised). I think the growth was a result of two amazing teams raising more money: Carl Armideo's "Dancing With the Dogs" raised more than $6,000 and Eastern Shore Veterinary Hospital raised more than $5,000. We also brought in more sponsorship money...including $1,000 from Dos Locos Restaurant and $1,000 from Intervet, Inc. More than 200 people registered, but I am certain that there were more people and dogs there than that. Thanks again to everyone for their hard work and support! Patrick J. Carroll Director of Development Delaware Humane Association If you aren't angry with Delmarva's 92.7 WGMD www.wgmd.com, you haven't been paying attention. It is past the time to raise our voices and speak out against their anti-gay dogma. Their programs include Rush Limbaugh, Laura Ingraham, and Michael Savage along with their own Radio Announcers who have similar viewpoints. If one disagrees with their viewpoints, they often hang-up on the caller while viewpoints that are similar to theirs are allowed to have a open-hunting bash on the GLBT community. This constant barrage is nothing more than Hate Speech, dismisses the GLBT community and dehumanizes GLBTers as if we had the birthrights of illegal aliens. Recently, there was some discussion about the Catholic Church's sex-abuse scandal. One caller made the statement: "Despite what they want us to think, the sex abuse scandal is about homosexuality and not about pedophilia." The radio announcer let the comment slide without a corrected statement as if homosexuality was a crime and that we do not deserve legitimate and legal relationships. In another discussion, they wanted to know why a local school was participating in a "Day of Silence" rather than interviewing participating students from a local school district who were involved in this national event. With the internet capability, WGMD can now stream their blatant incorrect information about gays and lesbians to not just our local area but around the world. Let us be silent no longer and contact Dan Gaffney at dan@wgmd.com about your disatisfaction with WGMD. Some advertisers, who your dollars may support are supporting these malicious and hateful programs. They are listed at http://www.wgmd.com/busdir.php. Feel free to contact them and express your dissatisfaction on where they are spending their advertising dollars. I thank you in advance for your time and energy for making this a success. Charles Meade I just wanted to take a moment and let you know how pleased we are at 1776 Steakhouse with our advertisement in your publication. The ad in Letters is proving to be one of the most effective ways for us to advertise. Your readers are very loyal and dedicated customers and for that we would like to thank you.
