LETTERS From CAMP Rehoboth |
The Way I See It |

As we head toward the busy summer season, the CAMP Rehoboth Community Center continues to be a hive of construction activity, with each day full of exciting progress. All of us in the CAMP Rehoboth office have started working with one eye on the window, just so we don't miss anything happening outside. As I've said, I believe, in every issue this year, everyone should please feel free to stop by the office for an update on the construction progress, to look at the plans, or for a tour of the site.
Our wonderful new spacethat includes the complete redesign of the popular CAMP Rehoboth courtyardis not cheap so even as the walls rise into place, the fundraising continues. Recently, our new Development Board of Advisors met and began the process of examining ways of ensuring a healthy financial future for the Community Center. Many of the members of that Board came from the CAMP Rehoboth Founders' Circle and we're delighted that they have agreed to share their time and talents as we look at ways to meet our goals both now and in the years ahead. In preparation for the annual Black and White Beach Ball, area artists have been busy creating their piece for the 2008 HEART of the Community art auction. This year's HEART theme is Living Color and I'm looking forward to seeing how the artists interpret it. Though we may all be wearing hard hats, the 2008 HEART of the Community preview party is from 4-6 p.m. on the Saturday of Memorial Day weekend (May 24) at the CAMP Rehoboth Community Center. All the art will be auctioned the following weekend (May 31) at the Black and White Beach Ball in the Atlantic Sands Ballroom. Information about tickets for Founders' Circle members has been mailed; general admission tickets to the Ball are $70 and available at the CAMP Rehoboth office. Art is an important part of the CAMP Rehoboth mission, and we're very excited by the additional gallery space that will be a part of the new wing of the Community Center. We're also excited about the growth of the art scene in downtown Rehoboth. Last year's new downtown galleriesGallery 50 and the Philip Morton Galleryare joined this season by the Ward Ellinger Gallery opening in the CAMP Rehoboth Courtyard and Detail Gallery's move to the second block of Baltimore Ave. the 2008 camp Rehoboth women's weekend was a big hit as can be seen by the many photos in CAMPshots. The event couldn't have happened without the support of our many volunteers, sponsors, workshop leaders, and vendors. On behalf of CAMP Rehoboth, I'd like to say a personal thank-you to all those who worked to make this year's event a success. I'd especially like to thank and congratulate this year's co-chairs Sharon Messina and Kit Ryan for providing the leadership that made the weekend possible. The most exciting thing that can happen to those of us who work for a non-profit organization is finding talented volunteers who will step up and take charge of an event or a project. Sometimeslike the work Sharon and Kit provided for the Women's Weekendthat means chairing an event. Sometimes it's simply taking the lead on one element of a projectas ELBoW Productions does for the Women's Weekend Concerts or Barb Thompson and Evie Simmons do for the golf events. As we begin the new summer season here at CAMP Rehoboth there are many ways for individuals with leadership skills to get involved. Our big July Fourth Love Weekend event needs committee members willing to take leadership rolesas do the CAMP Rehoboth Follies and Sundance. There are also volunteer leadership roles that will need to be addressed as we increase the size and scope of the Community Center. Anyone interested in talking about committee work or leadership for our many events and projects can contact me at CAMP Rehoboth. |
