Olivia Travel Brings Women Together…On Vacation!

From its start as a pioneer in women’s music 36 years ago, to its last 20 years as the leader in lesbian cruises and resort vacations, Olivia has been about creating a space for lesbians to feel free. San Francisco-based Olivia Companies has evolved into the leader in lesbian travel, offering one-of-a-kind experiences for women on cruise, resort, ecotour, and luxury vacations. Olivia is the largest promoter of lesbian travel and services in the world, chartering entire ships, resorts and tours ranging from intimate boutique voyages in the Galapagos and France to Caribbean cruises on ships holding 2,000 women.

And this year, the CAMP Rehoboth Women’s FEST is delighted to welcome Olivia as our presenting sponsor for the 10th anniversary of Rehoboth’s largest women’s event. As part of the weekend’s festivities, CAMP Rehoboth will be auctioning off an Olivia vacation for this spring! On Saturday night April 10, at intermission in the Sweet Baby J’ai concert, there will be an auction for an May 2010 Olivia land-based vacation—one of those amazing trips where Olivia takes over an entire all-inclusive resort property, complete with unparalleled Olivia entertainment and great accommodations. It’s the kind of vacation where you can leave your credit card in your room—cocktails, food and most activities such as snorkeling and kayaking are included. During the day, hang out by the pool, take a dance lesson, or play some beach volleyball.

If you’ve traveled and vacationed with Olivia before, you know the fantastic details surrounding Olivia vacations. If you’ve never been on a trip with them, let me tell you the truth from my own personal experience. Olivia is something very special. I have to admit, before I took a cruise with them, I was skeptical. I knew that Olivia cruises often (but not always) cost just a little more than a “regular” cruise. And I thought that traveling in the all-women environment wouldn’t enhance the experience enough to warrant it.

Was I ever wrong. As a “regular” cruise veteran, I was proven wrong within the first ten minutes. Starting with the welcome you get as you line up to board the ship, through the welcome cocktails, the first night’s dinner and then the amazing celebrity entertainment, it became the cruise of a lifetime.

Every moment aboard ship (or, I imagine at an Olivia-commandeered resort) is special—whether it’s chatting with women in the elevators, sharing fun on the excursions or meeting folks around the pool. On my previous cruises I certainly had little interest in watching folks play the Newly-wed game, hearing some tired old comics or seeing a Broadway review of dubious quality. Aboard Olivia, my how things changed!

First, we got Kate Clinton and Sweet Baby J’ai! Then we laughed until we cried with the newly-weds and had a hilarious time at the Hat Party! Take it from me, it’s a hand-picked experience for women every moment of the trip. Vacations have featured headliners such as Melissa Etheridge, kd lang, Heart, and the Indigo Girls. Sports stars (Sheryl Swoops, Martina Navratilova, Billie Jean King, Rosie Jones, Diana Nyad) and comedians (Margaret Cho, Whoopi Goldberg, and Lily Tomlin). Rehoboth’s own Viki Dee has recently become part of the Olivia family of entertainers.

If you don’t know too much about Olivia, check out their web site. There are great discounts going these days, amazing trips planned and a great big welcome mat out for travelers seeking trips they will never, ever forget.

CAMP Rehoboth thanks Olivia for their sponsorship and generosity—and welcomes them to Women’s FEST 2010.
