February 5, 2010 - Women's FEST by Fay Jacobs

Set to Break Attendance Records and Rock Rehoboth!

With the news that Olivia Travel has signed up to be a presenting sponsor of the April 8-11 CAMP Rehoboth Women’s FEST in Rehoboth, the event is set to take a giant leap forward in both excitement and offerings.

This is the 10th year for a day of workshops for women, along with other events to perk up the weekend. And this year, there will be dozens of events, including dance parties, concerts by nationally known entertainers, an art show, and more to jazz up the event.

Here’s how the weekend is shaping up:

Beginning Thursday, April 8, plans call for a Welcome Night/Locals Night Happy Hour at MIXX, dinner discounts at local restaurants, Celebrity Trivia at Frogg Pond, and Karaoke at Seafood Shack.

For Friday, attendees can choose from the popular 9-hole Golf Outing, a bike ride along the Breakwater Trail or a walking tour through downtown, then off to Cloud 9 for a women’s photography exhibit, happy hour—and get ready—lesbian speed dating in the back room!

All this just in time for the Friday night concert by P-Town’s favorite comic Maggie Cassella performing at the RB Theatre of the Arts. Maggie’s fast-paced, political and social rant has had audiences howling at the famed Post Office Cabaret in P-Town, with fans known to line up rain or shine for tickets.

On Saturday the Committee has really ramped up the offerings. After a breakfast by Deb Sutter of Nourish and a short (very short) welcome, the sessions are an awesome combination of education and pure fun—yes, there will be legal and medical advice, but also Bartending 101, Cooking, Poker Tips, Swing Dance, and a long list of other challenging and enjoyable FEMinars—more Fun, Education, and Mingling than seminars, and designed specifically for the Women’s FEST crowd.

In addition, photographer Carolyn Watson will offer a complimentary on-site photo studio for attendees with one free portrait (individuals, couples, friends) for FEMinar attendees.

Lunchtime for attendees is on their own downtown, and in addition there will be a book signing (A&M Books) and game signing (for the new game Spellen-Meister by Rehoboth’s Jackie Goff) at the CAMP Rehoboth Community Center, along with a Pizza Party for CAMP Families.

By 4 p.m. on Saturday the Convention Center will turn dance hall for a huge Ladies 2000 Tea Dance with great music and, of course, adult beverages! Those magnificent Ladies 2000 promoters are joining forces with CAMP to rock the convention center and present the signature Women’s FEST dance.

Headliner Sweet Baby J’ai will be on hand for a Saturday night encore appearance at the RB Theatre of the Arts. If you caught her act last year, it’s a sure bet you will “put your black drawers on” and head right back; if you missed her in ’09, here’s your chance to remedy the error. The buzz about Sweet Baby J’ai was like nothing we’ve ever heard before in town— and this year you must be there to witness an unforgettable evening of music and community.

Oh! And at the concert there will be an auction of an Olivia Cruise—don’t miss out!!!!

When Sunday, April 11 dawns, a slower pace may be in order, as CAMP Rehoboth will offer morning Tai Chi at the Community Center followed by the classic Women’s FEST brunch at Frogg Pond. Also on tap is a Jetty Group champagne limo real estate tour, a poker event at CAMP, and a closing party at Dos Locos.
