The CAMP Rehoboth Chorus Wants You!
The CAMP Chorus is starting its second year this month and, as Harvey Milk once said, “We are here to recruit you!”
Membership is open to all, gay or straight (but not narrow minded), young or old, individuals who love to sing. The ability to read music is not absolutely required, but it does help. The group has approximately 25 members, but hopes to grow the chorus to around 40 (or more). The CAMP Chorus sings four-part harmony and would love to add more singers to all parts, especially sopranos and tenors.
The CAMP Chorus is a fun group, specializing in American standards, show tunes and all manner of fun vocal numbers. More “Glee” than choir, having a great time and bringing the community together through song is the Chorus’s guiding principle.
Last season’s premier show Room for All had the theme of diversity and performances were wonderfully received. This fall the group will be singing 1940s and World War Two music—from ballads to the Andrews Sisters, but it’s sure to have the signature theme of inclusion as well.
The Chorus is very excited about plans for the year and there will be ample opportunities for soloists as well as full chorus singing. While the Andrew Sisters will be on board, the group is afraid Bob Hope won’t be able to join us, but you never know.
The chorus rehearses Monday evenings at 6:30 p.m. at the CAMP Rehoboth Community Center. The first rehearsal will be Monday, September 27. There is a $60 tuition fee for each semester to help cover costs for music, the musical director, and accompanist.
The chorus is under the direction of Bill McManus.
“I think we surprise him sometimes with the progress we have made. His knowledge and patience lift us up and we make a joyful noise!“ says Barb Ralph, a singer and the chorus business manager.
Accompanist David Zipse, is also a true pro, bringing his keyboard magic to the group. Fay Jacobs is the Chorus Artistic Director and provides the scripts and themes for the concerts—a style that makes the CAMP Chorus unique.
The chorus is currently putting together a committee to help with administrative and production issues like fund raising, costuming, and recruitment. People who do not sing, but would like to be a part of the group, could certainly work with the committee and help the chorus in non-musical ways.
Come one, come all! If you would like to join the chorus or help out, please contact CAMP Rehoboth at 302-227-5620 or Barb Ralph at barbralph@verizon.net. Or, just show up on Monday night, September 27. All are welcome to help us make a joyful noise!
