Love from the Delaware Beaches
Love is a many-splendored thing. Love lifts us up where we belong. All you need is Love! Yes, we are talking about the dance event of the summer, CAMP Rehoboth’s Love 2011!
Love 2011 is a two night dance event at the Rehoboth Beach Convention Center, and includes two mega-dance parties plus the all new Ladies 2000—Lady Love Tea Dance! Order your tickets now by calling 302-227-5620.
There’s the sun bunnies that bake in the sun and turn periodically like little rotisseries, then there’s the Energizer bunnies that never stop. For those who keep going and going, there’s a fairly new adventure you might wish to try this summer called paddleboarding (also known as SUP for Stand Up Paddle). SUP is easier than you think—in fact—about 90% of first timers don’t fall down according to local instructors. You can rent paddleboards and get instruction at East of Maui and Delaware Paddle Sports.
Two of my favorite stores in The Shops at the Pearl have opened second, larger locations. Bin 66 now has a gorgeous, new flagship store on Route 1 that offers tastings on Saturdays from 4-7. And Studio S which offers jewelry, engraving and gifts has opened a beautiful new store in First Street Station.
Also new to First Street Station is Monsoon Fashions, a “modern boutique with ready-to-wear men and women’s clothing.” I have to say, when I scoped out their store I was pleasantly surprised to find it had a New York vibe in their selection of apparel, handbags, and sunglasses. Very cool.
New restaurants just keep on coming! Cilantro, a Mexican-flavored cocina, has taken over the space formerly occupied by Blue. According to RehobothFoodie.com, they offer a very large menu, moderate prices, and an ample vegetarian selection of entrees.
I couldn’t understand why another French fry shop would open on Rehoboth Avenue, but when I went to the website for Tornado Fries, I could see why. Each serving is one potato that’s been skewered and spiral-cut, then deep fried with their rings cascading down the length of an 18” stick. Two years ago, a picture of one from South Korea began circulating on the Internet and voila! A spud is born.
Opening July 1 is G-50, an intimate, new gallery focusing on the art of photography. It is located in the 46 Baltimore Avenue Courtyard and will represent fine art photographers and photojournalists. A great way to visit a number of galleries is through MOSAIC, a gallery collective that offers a “Destination Art” walk the second Saturday of every months.
Rehoboth Beach was a big winner in the July issue of Delaware Today magazine’s Best of Delaware feature. Congrats to Gretchen Hanson of Hobo’s for Best Chef, the Greenman Juice Bar & Bistro for Best Health Foods, Henlopen City Oyster House for Best Oysters, and the many more local winners. We did good!
