Summer CAMP, Some Are Not! RU?
Ready to take on the 2011 season? The Summer CAMP Beach House Challenge is back! In its second year, at least ten houses have already stepped up to participate and show their support of CAMP Rehoboth.
The Challenge was created last summer as an outreach program to raise awareness about CAMP Rehoboth, primarily among the summer beach house members. The program accumulates points through volunteering (25 points per hour), attending designated CAMP events (25 points per event), and through fundraising and membership dollars raised (every dollar raised through new memberships and/or house fundraising efforts equals one point).
In its inaugural summer, 15 participating houses raised over $8000 last year, with over 40 new members and nearly 100 hours of volunteer work as a result. In an economy which continues to cause non-profits to close their doors, each of these results is crucial to sustaining the work of CAMP Rehoboth.
Congratulations to 6 Futcher Drive for winning last year’s Challenge. Definitely a tough act to beat, we’re happy to see you are involved again this year.
For its part, CAMP Rehoboth will again be delivering Beach Buckets to each house, filled with CAMPsafe condom packets, Letters, and other information. We’ll again be providing participating house members with a Summer CAMP Discount Card, to be used at a number of local businesses.
As the Kick-Off event this year, please join us at Aqua Grill on Saturday, June 18 (5:00-7:00 p.m.) for the Boys of Summer Love Bachelor Auction. Each house will be nominating a Bachelor to represent their house so you can expect to see some handsome boys in that group. No cover, 50/50 drawing, and winning bidders will receive a gift certificate from Aqua to enjoy with his (or her) Bachelor.
We’ve also scheduled a community service day on Saturday, July 23: a beach clean-up and rejuvenation outing here in Rehoboth. Immediately after, a catered brunch, sponsored by Barefoot Wines, will be provided to participating volunteers at CAMP Rehoboth.
Once again, the Grand Prize for winning the Challenge will be the coveted cover shot of the August 12 issue of Letters from CAMP Rehoboth. So don’t let your house miss out on this year’s fun! If you’d like to get in the mix, please email Chris Beagle or Murray Archibald, or check us out on Facebook at CAMP Rehoboth Community Center.
