New News at the Beach
Helloooooooooo Letters readers! I am so excited to be here in your hot little hands—you have no idea!
My name is Deb Griffin and I moved here five years ago with my fabulous partner, Greer Maneval. Every day I learn more about the area and its resources, so I created a newsletter called The Local Buzz as a way to share information with visitors and newer residents like myself. This column, Buzz Worthy, will bring you the best of The Local Buzz—all the information about the latest restaurants, businesses and services coming to the Delaware Beaches. Enjoy!
Friday, April 1, is the first annual Get Down in Town, a Spring shopping happy hour from 6-9 p.m. Restaurants are pairing up with stores to provide free samplings from their menus while you shop.
Café Solé is closing for remodeling on March 12 and will reopen in April. You can follow their remodeling progress on their Facebook page.
SoDel Concepts is opening their seventh restaurant called Matt’s Fish Camp Classic Seafood, just south of the Indian River Inlet bridge. They plan to open in April and will be “beach casual.”
Bin 66 will open a new store in April on Coastal Highway (Route 1) in the former Rattan Company space next to Bellinger Jewelers.
Blooming Boutique is bustin’ out all over! In Rehoboth they are expanding into the double store front that was originally the photo shop and in Lewes they are taking over the double store front that was Wildflowers. The original Lewes shop will become Lewes Gifts offering greeting cards, home decor and more.
I understand Glee night at Rigby’s is GREAT fun—happens every Tuesday with free food and drink specials. It’s so popular that the Gazette is currently interviewing several Rigby Gleeks for an upcoming article!
Speaking of food and drinks specials—if you don’t have The List from Hadley McGregor’s blog—then let your fingers do the running right across your keyboard to localsonlyblog.com and click on The List. You are going to LOVE it! Seven pages of restaurant specials (this is how I eat out as often as I do!)
In Lewes, the Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory is closing and Agave will expand into that space giving them more seating and a retail store. Second Street Grille is going to be Cake Bar—open for breakfast, lunch and dinner—with hightop tables in the front along with three bakery cases, a restaurant in the middle, and a bar (to be open late) in the back. Biblion Books is now open in Lewes next to King’s Ice Cream on Second Street. Their tagline is “used books and rare finds”.
Luca Ristorante & Enoteca in Millsboro is terrific! The food is amazing (we had the butternut squash ravioli and the hanger steak special), the staff is attentive and we got to sit in the vault! (The 1916 building was originally a bank and they have one table in the vault). Great wine list too.
Delaware Paddle Sports has opened near Cape Liquors on Coastal Highway in Lewes. A new Meineke is opening on Route 1 just north of Five Points near the Surfing Crab.
What used to be Details Gallery on Baltimore Avenue (next to Hobo’s) is going to be a sweater shop.
A new restaurant called Cosmopolitan will be in the former Retro Bar and Grill space on Wilmington Avenue. They plan to open late March.
HomeGoods is coming to the beach! They will be in the former Furniture and More space in Lewes near WaWa. And the Rock Pile just north of Surf Bagel on Route 1 will become an RV dealership. Wahoo Winnebago!
Last but not least…if you don’t have your Aqua VIP card dahlink, you must get it now! For just $20 bucks you and a guest get to go to the front of the line as occupancy allows, receive great drink and food discounts, and be eligible for VIP restricted areas. You can purchase one at Maggio Shields Real Estate Café on Rehoboth Avenue, First Street Station.
