Merry, MERR, and Starburst Gayla
This is the last issue of Letters from CAMP Rehoboth for 2011, so let me say Happy Thanksgiving, Happy Holidays, and Happy New Year, since we won’t be chatting again until February 2012! I hope that all of you have a very special holiday season.
As I’m writing this, unsuspecting gourds are being catapulted at the Punkin Chunkin, protesters are preparing to “Occupy Rehoboth,” and the Nic-o-boli can now be found in Wikipedia. (Did you know that Nic-o-bolis have been shipped to the White House?
Already planning for the holidays? Several area restaurants are offering amazing Thanksgiving feasts and holiday specials where you can dine in, or take it home.
November 25 is the downtown Rehoboth Tree Lighting and caroling; December 6 is the Hometown Christmas Parade with bands, costumes, and more. And get your dancin’ shoes ready for the fabulous CAMP Rehoboth Starburst Gayla, the women’s premier New Year’s Eve dinner and dance featuring DJ Peggy Castle, Viki Dee, door prizes, raffle, and a midnight champagne toast!
Green Man Juice Bar & Bistro will be used as a set for an independent film titled, The Next Nik, and Epworth Church has opened Scott’s Chapel and Art Gallery at their Holland Glade Road location.
New shops in Tanger Bayside include Body Central (apparel and accessories), Spritz Designer Fragrance and Direct Tools. In Tanger Seaside will be Crazy 8 (children’s clothing).
Coming to the Village of Five Points is another Touch of Italy (Italian deli and bakery), Kidz Clozet (upscale resale children’s clothing and toys), and the Sussex Coastal Dance Academy.
The Maggio Shields Real Estate Café and Chef Deberah Sutter of Nourish have combined talents to become The Café by Chef Deb. Nourish will still continue at its Boardwalk location but will close the Rehoboth Avenue store.
If you’ve lived here for some time, it’s very likely that you’ve seen or heard about a dolphin, a seal, or even a whale stranded on the beach. When that happens, most of us know to call the MERR Institute (MERR stands for Marine Education Research & Rehabilitation). MERR is a wonderful, non-profit group working behind the scenes on behalf of local marine life. Their Annual Finraiser (pun intended!) is November 19 at the Lewes Yacht Club.
Last issue I wrote about area restaurants offering fabulous deals to entice the locals to eat out during the winter months, and announced that I wouldn’t cook again until April. Lest you think I jest, here’s a sampling of what you can get. On Sunday you can get a steak dinner and a bottle of wine at Cloud 9 for $20; the Peking Duck at Confucius for $15; a Cheesesteak at Arena’s for $5, or Cheeseburger sliders at Greene Turtle for $1 each. The burgers at Kindle are just $7 on Wednesdays; an 8 oz Ribeye Steak, w/mashers and veggie is just $12 at Rigby’s on Thursdays. I could go on and on. And the drink specials are ridiculous! One restaurant starts happy hour at NOON! You get the picture. Again, all the specials can be found online at the “Off Season Specials” section on rehobothfoodie.com, and The List, on the localsonlyblog.com.
Till next time, I wish you and yours the very merriest of holidays!
