You Can Dance if You’d Like!
You can leave your cares behind…’cause it’s almost Sundance and if you don’t dance, well you’ll miss out big time! (with apologies to Men Without Hats). So c’mon and shake your booty at Sundance 2012: Legend of the Silver Rainbow
on Labor Day Weekend. Tickets are on sale now at camprehoboth.com!
Opera lovers rejoice! Opera At The Beach featuring soprano Patricia Racette, is scheduled for Saturday, August 18. In case you missed the interview in the last issue of Letters, Racette is an artist with the Metropolitan Opera and the Washington National Opera. Tickets are on sale at OperaAtTheBeach.com.
It’s not too early to be thinking about that Halloween costume and what better place to start than the new Purr-fectly Thrifty resale shop tucked behind PNC bank (next to Outlet Liquors). Their proceeds are planned to benefit a host of animal welfare organizations across the Cape Region. Another one of my personal favorites, Conley’s Community Thrift Store (on Robinsonville Road), just celebrated their one year anniversary, and Clear Space’s Encore Thrift Shop (on Route 1 in Lewes) just celebrated year three. Beebe Treasure Chest Thrift Shop (behind La Tonalteca) is now open Monday evenings till 7 p.m. And don’t forget longtime favorites: All Saints’ Thrift Store (in the old Gold’s Gym Center), and New Life Thrift Store behind the Jiffy Lube on Route One. Love me some thriftin’!
In the culinary delights category, there are several new dishes on the menu. Debacle is a new restaurant that quietly opened in the space formerly occupied by JAM Bistro on Baltimore Avenue. It’s a fusion of different cuisines including Southwest, Latin, and Asian, and will serve brunch on Saturdays and Sundays. Kay’s Kitchen is now open for breakfast and lunch on First Street next to Crepes by the Sea, and Sammy’s Kitchen on Wilmington Avenue is now open 24/7 (kids eat free). As I’m writing this, Buffalo Wild Wings has just opened near the QVC outlet.
Outside the city I’m hearing lovely things about 14 Global in Bethany Beach and The Upper Crust in Georgetown. 14 Global offers small plates, personal pizzas, soups, salads, and creative cocktails and is open noon till midnight. The Upper Crust is located just off the circle in Georgetown and is open Monday-Friday. There’s lots of buzz about their pastries, salads, and sandwiches.
Under construction and taking forever is the new Chipotle (near J Crew in the Seaside Tanger Outlet). Got really excited about the new building between Tokyo Steakhouse and Home Depot till I found out it was Advance Auto Parts. Oh well…at least it’s not more pizza! The two story structure underway across from Big Fish Grill will be the new Rehoboth Beach Animal Hospital which I believe will be open 24 hours.
Mark your calendars for the Delaware Bike Summit and Amish Country Bike Tour September 7-8. This event draws nearly 2000 cyclists from all over the country. The Rehoboth Art League Outdoor Fine Art and Fine Craft Show is held two weekends, August 11-12 and August 18-19 and is one of the best craft shows here at the beach. September 8-9 is the 35th Annual Nanticoke Powwow featuring Native American dances, crafts and food.
Last but not least, Rehoboth Beach now has 29 parking spaces for scooters and two new bicycle parking stations. Scooter and bike parking is free. And free is good!
