Toto, We Are Not in Kansas Anymore!
Judy! Judy! Judy! The show, Typhoon Judy, starring Christopher Peterson as Judy Garland, comes to the Rehoboth Beach Convention Center for one night only, Saturday, July 28. If you’ve never seen Mr. Peterson perform, you must go! The first time I had the privilege was at the Renegade; and as many years ago as that was, I will never forget it. He’s simply extraordinary. Tickets are available at camprehoboth.com.
Speaking of the Renegade, have you been to the restaurant/nightclub known as Ivy? Lions and tigers and bears, oh my! This is simply the place you must try! According to their website, Ivy features “fine dining by the piece” during dinner hours, and the nation’s best DJs at night. The small bites are to die for—absolutely some of the best food I’ve eaten at the beach. My eating cohorts could not stop raving about the Lamb Tootsie Pop, the Kobe Beef Slider, Baby Arugula Rolled in Rice Paper, the Grilled Grilled Cheese, and the list goes on. DJ Skribble was warming up on our last visit, and I’m sorry that my DC bound friends couldn’t stay and play because I was seriously ready to get me some happy feet!
Thinking about dancing makes me think of Sundance 2012: The Legend of the Silver Rainbow. Celebrating its 25th year, Sundance has evolved into a two night event and takes place Labor Day Weekend. All proceeds will benefit the CAMP Rehoboth Community Center, so get your tickets now!
Finally got a table at Big Sissies and loved it! Easy parking, good food, and reasonable prices. The homemade Cheddar Mushroom Soup was out of this world which led to my honey naming chef Russ, the Sultan of Soup. He told us later that night that he loves to make soups, and new ones will keep on comin’! (and we will keep on going!)
August 4th is a busy weekend! Local events include the 34th Annual Sandcastle Contest, the Rehoboth Beach Museum’s Beach Ball, and the Lewes Historical Society’s Antique Show. I was blown away the first time I saw the entries for the Sandcastle Contest. This is serious business! The sculptures are intricate, entertaining and enormous. Go check it out.
Since Roly Poly closed, we’ve lacked a place for healthy fast food. Not any more ‘cause Modern Mixture has opened in downtown Rehoboth and it rocks! It’s a funny blend of Mexican and Middle Eastern that I can’t get enough of—try the Middle Eastern Chop Salad which includes some of the lightest falafel you’ve ever tasted.
Other fun food news: The Maggio Shields Real Estate Café now offers fondue. Everything from Shrimp and Crab, Spinach and Artichoke to Chocolate and Cream; DaVinci’s Pizzeria Italian Ristorante is now open in Lewes; Goodfellas is now open in Milton; Pete’s Steak Shop is open in Rehoboth; SnoYo offers gourmet frozen yogurt in Five Points, and the Snoball Shack opened in the old icehouse on New Road in Lewes. Touch of Italy’s new bakery is now open in Five Points offering breads, pastries and other specialty items, with pizza and sandwiches coming soon. Their newest Rehoboth location will open this fall next to Outlet Liquors and include a 100 seat restaurant. Buffalo Wild Wings plans to open by the end of July and I was just told that a Papa John’s Pizza would open in the same shopping center. Happy eating my friends!
