Though Murray and I were on vacation during the recent CAMP Rehoboth Chorus concert, I was delighted to see the YouTube postings of some of the performances, and very sorry to have missed the event. We are all very proud of the work the Chorus has done over the last few years, and their sold-out winter concert is a sure sign that our whole community is very proud of them, as well. Congratulations to the Chorus and their guests, the Rock Creek Singers from the DC Gay Men’s Chorus, and to all who worked to make it a very special event.
Looking for space for a civil union? Why not consider CAMP Rehoboth? In his CAMPmatters column, Murray writes about the many public spaces available here at the CAMP Rehoboth Community Center. From meetings and workshops, to private parties and civil unions, we’ve got great rooms available right in downtown Rehoboth Beach. For information about scheduling an event or activity at the CAMP Rehoboth Community Center, call the CAMP office at 302-227-5620.
One of the funniest women in show business, Suzanne Westenhoefer, returns to Rehoboth Beach on Friday, April 13 at 8:30 p.m. at the Rehoboth Beach Convention Center. Officially a part of the big CAMP Rehoboth Women’s FEST Weekend, this show is for everyone—men, women, gay, and straight. Suzanne, in case you’ve never seen her, is hilarious. She was one of the first openly gay comedians to appear on television, and her appearances include: Letterman, HBO, Bravo, and Logo. Tickets for Suzanne’s show are $25 and are available online or by calling CAMP Rehoboth. A complete guide to the 2012 CAMP Rehoboth Women’s FEST is also available online.
CAMP Rehoboth, like other non-profit organizations, depends on our volunteers to accomplish a great deal of our work. Over the last year, our talented volunteer development team has created the CAMP Rehoboth Volunteer Orientation Program, and has made great strides in training and managing our many volunteers. The next two Volunteer Orientation sessions are scheduled for March 10 and May 12. Both long-time volunteers and brand new ones are encouraged to attend. To sign up call CAMP Rehoboth. On Saturday, April 21 from 3-5 p.m., CAMP Rehoboth will celebrate the work of all our volunteers at our annual Volunteer Appreciation Party. If you’ve ever volunteered for us, or would like to volunteer for us, please make plans to attend.
I’m sad to say we’re losing our CAMP Rehoboth administrative assistant. Mitch Melton has been with us only since last fall, but we’re sorry to see him go. Mitch, whose beautiful voice was featured at the recent CAMP Rehoboth Chorus concert, has taken a job as a vocalist at Disney World. Congratulations Mitch! We wish you great success. That means, of course, that we are beginning the process of hiring someone to fill his position. The job is highly clerical, requires good organizational and computer skills, and great people skills. Email resumes to Steve Elkins.
Though I find it hard to believe that we are already into March of 2012, the months ahead look to be good ones for us here at CAMP Rehoboth. As always, there are changes: most notably, after 17 years, there will be no Love event this year. With production costs continually rising, and with the Fourth of July holiday falling on a Wednesday this season, we’ve decided to channel all our efforts into a massive 25th anniversary Sundance on Labor Day Weekend. After many requests, 2012 will also see the return of our popular Black and White Beach Ball featuring the HeART of the Community Art Project and Auction. Produced with major support from PNC Wealth Management, the Black and White Beach Ball will be held on Sunday, June 3 at the Clear Space Theatre on Baltimore Avenue.
