Sundance 2013 Labor Day Weekend
It’s the party too big for just one night—the CAMP Rehoboth Sundance event, held over two nights of the Labor Day weekend at the Rehoboth Beach Convention Center. This year’s event, Sundance 2013: Rainbow XXVI—Circus of the Summer Sun, will be held Saturday, August 31, and Sunday, September 1. The first night is an auction extravaganza, featuring hundreds of gift baskets, dining certificates, travel packages, art and retail items, specialty gifts, and unique experiences, all up for bid. The second night is the high-voltage dance party that the event is named for. Participants can attend either or both nights of the event. Tickets are $45 for one night, $80 for both, and are available on the CAMP Rehoboth website.
On August 31, the Rehoboth Beach Convention Center will be transformed into a spot-lighted, high-style auction house, packed with silent auction items and concluding with a live auction by auctioneer Lorne Crawford. From 7-10 p.m., guests will enjoy the open bar, food by Matt Haley’s Plate Catering, and desserts by Touch of Italy as they peruse the gift items, vacation packages, dining opportunities, pieces of fine art, and one-of-a-kind experiences up for bid. “Sundance guests are amazed each year by both the quantity and the quality of the auction items,” says Murray Archibald, CAMP Rehoboth Board President. “The Rehoboth Beach community really steps up and their generosity continues to astound me. Each year is better than the last.”
The centerpiece of the auction this year is a luxurious 7-14 day Celebrity European cruise package, donated by Accent on Travel, which now has an office in Rehoboth Beach. The cruise for two includes a balcony stateroom with ocean views. The winning bidder will choose from 57 itineraries and can travel between May and October 2014 with some exclusions (all details are available upon request from CAMP Rehoboth).
The highlight of the 2013 Sundance Live Auction is a 7-14 day European Celebrity Cruise from Accent on Travel.
Other exciting travel opportunities available at this year’s auction include: a trip for two to Olivia’s Cancun, Mexico Resort, a week in St. Barts, a week in Nantucket, a week in Costa Rica, and even the 2014 Memorial Day week in a beautiful beach block house right here in Rehoboth Beach. The Sundance Auction will feature some unique items this year including a Suplove Adventurer Standup Paddle Board from Tuscan Construction and a Finnleo Infrared Sauna from New Wave Spas, plus spectacular art from Sondra Arkin, Ward Ellinger, Bill Snow and others.
On September 1, the Convention Center will be transformed again, this time into the region’s wildest and best dance club. The Sundance fun starts at 8 p.m., with dancing until 2 a.m., and includes an open bar all night. Mark Thomas hand-picks contemporary progressive dance music with a few classic sounds here and there to get the crowd going. He starts slow, building up the energy in the room as the crowd gains momentum. Hundreds of revelers crowd the floor in an atmosphere unmatched by regular clubs. Paul Turner turns up the heat with his amazing lights and special effects.
Although the auction and dance are the focal point, Sundance actually kicks off a week earlier, with the Sundance Land and Sea event on August 25, starting at 8 a.m. at the Rehoboth Beach Bandstand. The event includes a 5K run, 1-mile fun walk, sashay (costumes encouraged), ½-mile swim, and biathlon (½-mile swim and 5K run). This event is coordinated by the Seashore Striders, and information is available on their website at seashorestriders.com.
Sundance is truly a night to remember, and the don’t-miss summer send-off people look forward to all year. Unfortunately, space is limited, so be sure to get tickets early to avoid disappointment.
