August 9, 2013 - Sundance 2013 by Nancy Sakaduski

Land and Sea Event Challenges Walkers, Runners, Swimmers…and Sashayers

Rehoboth Beach is the setting for many runs, walks, and even swims, but there is only one event that invites participants to “sashay,” and that is the annual Sundance Land and Sea event, a lighthearted fundraiser for an important cause. The event will be held August 25, starting at 8 a.m., and will include a 5K run, 1-mile fun walk, sashay (costumes encouraged), ½-mile swim, and biathlon (½-mile swim and 5K run). There is even a category for sleepwalkers (people who would rather stay in bed, but want to contribute to the cause and then attend the after-party). Prizes will be awarded in several categories. The event is organized by the Seashore Striders and benefits CAMP Rehoboth, a 501(c)(3), nonprofit community service organization dedicated to Creating A More Positive environment in Rehoboth Beach and its surrounding communities.

Whether you are a serious runner, swimmer, power walker, or just want to dress like a diva and sashay, you are welcome to join the fun. Pre-registration (through August 15) is $25 for each of the single events and $35 for the biathlon. Pre-registrants are guaranteed a t-shirt. General and in-person registration is $30 for each of the single events and $40 for the biathlon. T-shirts will be given to these registrants while supplies last. The fee for sleepwalkers is $30. This category is for people who want to simply dream about running and then show up for the after-party at CAMP Rehoboth following the events. Additional information on each event and the registration options is available on the Seashore Striders website at seashorestriders.com. Online registration closes August 22.

The after-party will be held at CAMP Rehoboth, 37 Baltimore Avenue, immediately following the race. Refreshments will be provided by Hobo’s, Lori’s Café, Fractured Prune, Kickin’ Chicken, and Modern Mixture. Beverages will include Bloody Marys, Fordham and Old Dominion beer, Gatorade, Juice, and water. There is a $5 fee for guests (friends of race participants who are not entering any of the events but would like to join in on the food and festivities).

The Land and Sea event is part of Sundance, a series of events held by CAMP Rehoboth each year at summer’s end. Sundance includes the Sundance Auction and Cocktail Buffet on Saturday August 31, 7-10 p.m., and the Sundance party on September 1 that features dancing from 8 p.m.-2 a.m. Tickets for these two events are available through CAMP Rehoboth’s website at camprehoboth.com.

Information and registration for the Land and Sea is available on the Seashore Striders website.
