Wild Women Eating Rehoboth
Welcome back! So much to tell you, let’s start with events!
The weekend this issue hits your hot little hands is the Winter Fest Bark Fest in Lewes, starting with Yappy Hour at Irish Eyes (Feb 8). Festivities continue Feb 9 with the Pet Pageant Parade, featuring furry friends competing in four categories, i.e. formal wear and leisure wear.
Other upcoming Feb/Mar highlights include the debut of the Rehoboth Concert Band (Feb 16); the Merchants’ Attic and Public Garage Sale at the Convention Center (Feb 16); and the Rehoboth Beach Chocolate Festival (Mar 2).
Tickets are already on sale for April’s wild and wonderful CAMP Rehoboth Women’s FEST 2013, now one of the premier women’s events in the mid Atlantic area. This four day party will feature two tea dances, country artist Chely Wright, comedian Vickie Shaw, singer-songwriter Christine Havrilla, countless activities, fabulous workshops, dinner and drink discounts all around town, and the very special Broadwalk on the Boardwalk, supporting the Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition. I got so excited writing about this, that I stopped what I was doing and bought my tickets!
Moving on to the wining and dining category, we present Eating Rehoboth, where you sample and sip your way around town on guided tours of Rehoboth restaurants. They plan to start tours the end of March. Morgan and Gower Cheesemongers is now open on Baltimore Avenue, offering over 200 kinds of cheese, with plans to add a grilled cheese bar very soon. By June the former South Pacific Florist Shop will be a new restaurant called Bramble & Brine. The Frogg Pond is rebranding as The Pond Bar & Grill, in part to call attention to the fact that most of their menu items are now made from scratch. Conch Island Key West Bar and Grill is going to remove one of its three bars and replace it with a liquor store. The latest rumor around the recently closed Cloud 9 is that it will be a 16 Mile Brew Pub. Stay tuned.
Out on Route 1, Timothy’s Tap House is now called Beachcomber, and I believe the menu will stay the same for now. A new Chick-Fil-A will be built in the northwest corner of the Kmart parking lot. In Lewes, Jay Caputo (owner of Espuma and Cabo), has opened the Rose & Crown in the former Beseme space in the hotel Rodney. The food is fabulous and it’s become one of my favorite places to eat. Surf Bagel is now open for dinner. Besides eggs, bagels, wraps, and soups, you can also get salads, burritos, tacos, cheesesteaks, and chicken tenders. Lisa Berlin of Agave has purchased the now closed Cake Bar, and I believe it will be a candy store in the front and a breakfast and lunch eatery in the back.
Getting down to new business, Gretchen Hanson of Hobos plans to open the Beach Bubble Wellness Center above her restaurant this April. Hazel’s Flooring replaced Kids Cutz in the Shoppes of Camelot (across from Ruby Tuesday). Another flooring shop, Casual Carpet and Flooring, opened near Surf Bagel. DJs Pet Depot (pet supplies) in the Mariner’s Plaza near BLING and Pat’s Pizza will have their grand opening Feb 16. Sally Lawton of The Cottage will open a second store called Stella’s, offering home accessories and lots of antiques in the Schooner Inn Building (next door to Striper Bites).
And on a final note, the new Metropolitan Community Church of Rehoboth on Plantations Road looks almost ready to open. Amen, my friends.
