Best of the Best

The latest issue of Delaware Today features the winners of the annual “Best of Delaware” contest including many Rehoboth favorites. Congrats to Crystal Restaurant for the best breakfast (amen to that!), Hari Cameron of a(MUSE.) for best chef, Confucius for best Chinese, Blue Moon for best fine dining; Mariachi for best Mexican; Bin 66 for best wine store, and so many more. The editors also picked the Firefly Music Festival as the Coolest Thing to Happen in Delaware in the Past 10 Years; and Ivy as the best place to dance at the beach.

Next to arrive in my mailbox was the July issue of Coastal Living with an article on America’s Best Beach Boardwalks. I turned the page and voila!, I found our very own Rehoboth Beach nestled right there in the top seven. Rehoboth Beach also got a five star rating for water quality from the National Resources Defense Council, making it one of the 13 Superstar Beaches in the entire nation.

If you don’t think you could be any prouder, keep reading! As of July 1, all three of Delaware’s County Marriage Bureaus are accepting applications for same-gender marriages! And how timely— the first Gay & Lesbian Wedding Expo is set for July 28 at the Atlantic Sands Hotel and Conference Center.

For you Florida birds, Frontier Airlines added new nonstop routes between New Castle airport in Delaware and Fort Myers, Florida. Very cool if you don’t feel like driving to the airports in Philly or Baltimore.

Was at a friend’s house the other day, admiring their cool cocktail glasses made from vodka bottles. Turns out that a company called bottleLUV makes them right here in Dewey. They create all kinds of fun things with a (empty) container from your favorite libation.

While Green Man Juice Bar has been offering fresh squeezed delights for quite some time, I’ve noticed several other places jumping on the juice craze including YogaFresh (near Big Sissies) and the Nectar Café in Lewes. Kale yeah!

Thanks to Kathy D for emailing me about the new nine hole golf course behind Super Fresh called American Classic Golf Club. Debbie C alerted me to the upcoming On the Docks Grill at Love Creek Marina. Wendy at Charcoal Grill says to let readers know she’s changed her menu to now feature smoked meats, brisket, turkey and chicken. She’s also added a “Go Bottomless at the Beach” breakfast buffet on Saturdays and Sundays.

Abbamania is at the Rehoboth Convention Center July 27, and August 3rd is the 35th Annual Sandcastle Contest in Rehoboth, and the Bachelor Auction at Aqua. The following two weekends will be the 40th Annual Outdoor Fine Art and Fine Craft Show at the Rehoboth Art League. Tickets are already on sale for The Rehoboth Jazz Festival (Oct 17-20) which will be held on five stages and feature artists like Sheila E, Steve Cole and Marion Meadows. And speaking of tickets, get thee to the CAMP Rehoboth website now for your passes to Sundance 2013 on Labor Day weekend. Stay cool!
