Eyecons, Pride, and Sissies, Oh My!

Remember your first Pride Festival? Mine was the Capital Pride event in DC, and I think my face hurt the next day from grinning at more than 100,000 fabulous people. It was amazing! So, I am very tempted by the PFLAG (Parents, Friends, and Families of Lesbians and Gays) Bus Trip to NYC on June 30 which happens to be the date for the NYC Pride celebration. YOWZA! For info contact Howard Gregory.

Morgan and Gower Cheesemongers now offers an amazing Grilled Cheese Sammich Bar with options like the “Ciao Down” (two delectable cheeses, olives and a peppery arugula). M&G is also going to sell cheese from the Fabulous Beekman Boys farm. Go Andy!

Went to the Rehoboth Farmers Market on Tuesday and was delighted by all the new vendors. Loved Papparadelle’s Pasta booth featuring some amazing flavors of hand dried pasta as well as gluten free options. Most of the participants at the market were offering free samples—it was better than being in Costco!

Since parking in downtown Rehoboth is getting more challenging, I decided to dine at Big Sissies which always has plenty of free parking. They’re now open for lunch daily, offering some delicious FIVE dollar deals. Sissies has a new dinner menu as well, so please stop by and check them out (love the olive tapenade). Two doors down from Sissies is the incredibly awesome YogaFresh frozen yogurt store which is now serving smoothies and a wild variety of freshly made juices.

The décor of the new Nectar Café and Juice Bar in Lewes feels completely different than any restaurant at the beach. I’d call it nouveau French Country, but that doesn’t do it justice. It’s very bright and airy with a galaxy of plates on the rear wall as artwork, and has a cool bar made from old doors. In addition to the juice bar, they serve breakfast all day, and offer healthy and interesting sandwiches and salads.

The first Rehoboth VegFest was a great success with over 600 attendees! While there I discovered that Good Earth Market will be opening a second location in Rehoboth Beach behind Bin 66 on Route 1. I also learned that Cake Break will open a second location in Lewes next to Striper Bites. Nice to see everyone doing so well!

It’s a bar! It’s a restaurant! It’s a distillery! The Delaware Distilling Company is actually all of these things and is now open in the former Old Bay location. The DDC offers food and drinks featuring their own rum, gin and vodka made with all natural ingredients, fruits and botanicals.

If you haven’t been, take a drive to the East Coast Garden Center in Millsboro. In addition to their lovely array of gorgeous flowers and plants, they have the wonderful Cordrey Center which offers a packed calendar of events like the murder mystery dinner theater on June 20.

From June 27 to August 29, check out La Cage Aux Folles starring Christopher Peterson at the Clear Space Theatre Company. On July 5, the amazing Mr. Peterson brings back his Eyecons extravaganza, showcasing his parodies of Marilyn Monroe, Carol Channing, Joan Rivers, and more. Be there!
