Waiting for Sunrise
Barefoot guests tiptoed
on sand cooled by the night
murmuring finally finally
orange and red flaming lanterns
lofted into the dark sky
seagulls chanted
waves whispered prayers for the sun
the minister in black robe brought
her wife and the singer
his husband
a black dog and a man watched
from a distance
the circle of friends closed in
brides linked hands
walked silently to the shore
silhouettes
against a veil of grey marble clouds
on cue at 6:04 vows spoken
rings exchanged
the sea opened her arms
lifted the veil
and the sun
sang Hallelujah
to the new day
and to the lovers
who had waited so long
