Sundance Returns Labor Day Weekend
Rehoboth Beach DE—One of the most widely anticipated events in the area, Sundance, returns to the Rehoboth Beach Convention Center August 30-31. The event raises much-needed funds for CAMP Rehoboth, an organization that operates a full-service community center; offers a variety of activities, cultural events, service projects, and educational programs; and advocates for a community of inclusion in Rehoboth Beach. Sundance 2014: Rainbow XXVII—The Love Dream—Return to Xanadu promises to be bigger than ever, so participants are urged to hold the date and check for updates at camprehoboth.com.
Sundance attracts nearly 1,000 participants and is considered “the event of the year,” says CAMP Rehoboth Board President Murray Archibald. “We count on organizations and individuals to show their support and help us raise the critical funds needed to support our community programs and services.” Participants can attend either or both nights of the event. Tickets are $45 for one night, $80 for both.
On the first night of the Sundance event, the Convention Center is transformed into a spot-lighted high-style auction extravaganza. Bar stations and restaurant booths offering lavish hors d’oeuvres are scattered around the room, which is filled with gift items, vacation packages, dining opportunities, pieces of fine art, and one-of-a-kind experiences up for bid. Then on the second night, the Convention Center is transformed again, this time into the region’s wildest and best dance club. This is the high-energy party the event is named for. The Sundance fun starts at 8 p.m., with dancing until 2 a.m. and an open bar all night.
Individuals and organizations can be a part of the event through ticket purchases or sponsorships, which start at just $100. Sponsors’ names appear in the monthly publication Letters from CAMP Rehoboth, and are listed on the CAMP Rehoboth website. Posters listing the names of every sponsor are distributed to stores and businesses and are displayed throughout the area during the busy summer season. Support levels range from $100 to over $5,000, and each level brings an escalating array of benefits.
The Sundance event began in 1988, inspired by the need to do something in response to the growing AIDS epidemic and the terrible devastation it was causing. Funds raised by the benefit went toward education and health services in the Rehoboth community. In the 27 years since the first Sundance, the event has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars, first for AIDS and later for the wellness of the entire community.
All proceeds from the event benefit CAMP Rehoboth (a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation) and support the activities and programs it provides to the Rehoboth community. For more information, go to camprehoboth.com.
