Just a note to let the readers of Letters know that I support the election of Kathy McGuiness for Rehoboth Beach City Commissioner on August 9, 2014.
Many of you remember that Kathy previously served as a Commissioner for 12 years and, after a break, she is ready to serve the citizens of Rehoboth again.
Throughout my career as the State Representative for the 14th district, and now as Speaker of the House, Kathy has been a very staunch supporter of all the LGBT legislation we have passed into law—equal rights, civil unions, marriage equality, and transgender rights. In fact, early on in her first term as a city commissioner, she helped draft a resolution prohibiting discrimination based on sexual orientation—whether real or perceived—long before the issue was taken up in the State House of Representatives.
Kathy is dedicated to making sure that city services are efficient and cost effective—really, the backbone of the city’s responsibilities. And, she is not afraid to pick up the phone and lobby for funds for various city projects and needs. The bottom line is that she gets things done. She will work to protect our beaches, boardwalk, parks, waterways, and businesses, and help to maintain the reputation that Rehoboth Beach is a safe and diverse resort town. Lastly, city property owners and residents can count on Kathy to protect their investment in Rehoboth Beach.
