Frank Hornstein
Frank grew up in Pittsburgh, PA, and spent 10 years in State College at Penn State University, managing a group of restaurants. He later moved to Washington DC and started his own company. For the next 29 years, his business installed interior plants, landscaping, and completed holiday decorating for commercial businesses, hotels, office buildings, and malls.
Frank bought a home in Henlopen Station, Rehoboth, in 2000 and moved here full time in August of 2013. He now works as a realtor for Long & Foster and has a pet tabby cat, named Boo Boo.
When did you start volunteering at CAMP Rehoboth and what events and activities have you been involved with since?
I started volunteering in August of last year, working on Sundance. Since then, I have volunteered helping with decorating at Women’s FEST this past April, the Black and White Beach Ball in May, and the Starburst Gayla, last New Year’s Eve. This year I’m working on the Starburst Gayla Committee. One of just two boys!
What’s your best memory volunteering here?
I love using my decorating skills at each of the events I’ve volunteered for.
Of the many events held by CAMP Rehoboth, which is your favorite?
Sundance. It is such a massive production and involves so many wonderful people. It’s amazing to see it all come together.
Favorite season at the beach and why?
My favorite season here is fall. It is much quieter and the weather is just beautiful.
Name a childhood crush or idol…
Mark Harmon. He was luscious!
Favorite city and why?
London. I have been there about ten times. It is my favorite city in the world. I love the history, the architecture, the Crown, and especially the ability to go to the theatre several times a week.
Name the biggest change you’ve seen in Rehoboth and how long have you been coming here?
I have been coming to Rehoboth since 1985 and the biggest change I’ve seen is how far gay life has come here. So much of that has to do with CAMP Rehoboth and the work the organization has done in the community overall. I’m very grateful for that.
You’ve been asked to appear in a fundraiser for CAMP Rehoboth and need a drag name. What would it be? (If you’re having difficulty…pick a childhood pet’s name and the street you grew up on).
Baby Sheffield!
Your best vacation ever was to…
Europe…Italy, Rome, Bologna, Florence, Venice, and Milan. There is something nice about being on the other side of the world and no one can find you.
What are you most thankful for?
My health and my cousin, Nancy. She has been there for me every time I’ve ever needed help.
I’ve had the pleasure of working with you on several occasions, Frank, and always enjoy your creativity and presence with the other volunteers. I’m also looking forward to being the other “boy” with you on the Starburst Gayla Committee this year. Should be fun! Seriously speaking, though, CAMP Rehoboth is very grateful for your continued work with us. Our sincere thanks.
