Sundance Returns Labor Day Weekend
One of the largest and most exciting events held in Rehoboth Beach each year is returning again Labor Day weekend. Sundance 2015: The Super Magic Rainbow Glitter Ball will be held September 5-6 at the Rehoboth Beach Convention Center. Sundance attracts nearly 1,000 participants and raises much-needed funds for the CAMP Rehoboth Community Center. CAMP Rehoboth operates a full-service community center; offers a variety of activities, cultural events, service projects, and educational programs; and advocates for a community of inclusion in Rehoboth Beach.
For the first part of the Sundance event, which takes place Saturday, September 5, 7-10 p.m., the Rehoboth Beach Convention Center is transformed into a spot-lighted high-style auction extravaganza. Bar stations and restaurant booths offering lavish hors d’oeuvres are scattered around the room, which is filled with gift items, vacation packages, dining opportunities, pieces of fine art, and one-of-a-kind experiences up for bid. This year, a fantastic, all inclusive, European river boat cruise from Accent on Travel and Uniworld is up for bid (with shore excursions as well), as is an Olivia Caribbean Escape cruise in early January 2016. “Each year the auction items get more exciting,” says Murray Archibald, CAMP Rehoboth Board President. “It’s great to see residents, visitors, community leaders, and business owners, all getting together to have a fantastic time, snap up some fabulous bargains, and support a great cause.”
Then Sunday, September 6, the Convention Center will be transformed again, this time into the region’s wildest and best dance club. One of the most sought-after DJs in the industry, DJ/Remixer Joe Gauthreaux will take the stage at the Convention Center, playing fresh beats and classics for a progressive house sound. This is the high-energy party the event is named for. The Sundance fun starts at 8 p.m., with dancing until 2 a.m. and an open bar all night. Hailed as one of the “Hottest DJs” by Out magazine, Gauthreaux is a well-known American house music DJ and producer who hails from New Orleans but plays all over the country.
Sundance attracts nearly 1,000 participants and is considered “the event of the year,” says Archibald. “We count on organizations and individuals to show their support and help us raise the critical funds needed to support our community programs and services.” Participants can attend either or both nights of the event. Tickets are $45 for one night, $80 for both. Sponsorships and host packages are also available.
This year is CAMP Rehoboth’s 25th anniversary year and the 28th year for Sundance. The event has raised more than two million dollars for AIDS services and CAMP Rehoboth since 1988—thanks to the generosity of its sponsors, supporters, hosts, and participants.
All proceeds from the event benefit CAMP Rehoboth (a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation) and support the activities and programs it provides to the Rehoboth community.
