Rainbow Chorale of Delaware to Sing at GALA Choruses Festival in Denver

The Rainbow Chorale of Delaware, Delaware’s oldest LGBT choral group, will be traveling to Denver in July to participate in the GALA Choruses Festival 2016.

Held every four years, this choral festival unites LGBT (Lesbian/Gay/Bisexual/Transgender) choruses from all over the world for five days of celebration in song. The 2016 Festival is expected to feature 130 choruses and more than 6,000 singers.

Chorale members who have attended prior GALA festivals describe it as thrilling and transformative.

Both the full choral group and PRISM, the chamber choir, will perform music from the concerts given locally over the past four years. Songs will include “Shosholoza,” a stirring South African anthem that stopped the show at the April Revolution! concerts, the hilarious “Caffeine Overload Polka,” the stirring gospel piece “Take Me to the Water,” and “We Dance,” from the Broadway musical Once on This Island.

Formed in 1999, The Rainbow Chorale of Delaware is a nonprofit community chorus that provides opportunities for members of the LGBT community and their straight allies to perform high-quality choral music in an affirming environment. Members come from all over Delaware, as well as New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Maryland. In addition to offering concerts in Wilmington and Rehoboth Beach three times each year, over the years the Chorale has sung at dozens of outreach events for local churches and community groups.

In June, the Chorale is presenting a “mini-GALA” event, a chance for the Mid-Atlantic audience to help celebrate the GALA experience. This concert, called “Everyone Sing OUT,” will be at Epworth United Methodist Church, 19285 Holland Glade Road, Rehoboth Beach DE 19971, at 4 p.m. on Saturday, June 18, 2016.

The concert will also feature three guest choruses: Anna Crusis Women’s Choir of Philadelphia; the New Wave Singers of Baltimore; and the Philadelphia Gay Men’s Chorus, each singing the repertoire they will perform at the GALA festival.  Tickets are $20 in advance, $25 at the door.
