Delaware Hospice Annual Festival of Trees

A time honored tradition, Festival of Trees, is gearing up for this year’s three day extravaganza. Festival of Trees features a display of beautifully decorated trees and wreaths. A variety of events and activities help make this weekend truly special. Festival of Trees is hosted by Delaware Hospice.

The event will be held Friday, December 2 from noon-4 p.m. and Saturday, December 3 and Sunday, December 4 from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. at the Delaware Hospice Center (100 Patriots Way, Milford 19963). Admission is free.

The Guest Artist Exhibit will be showcased throughout the weekend. This year’s guest artist is Shane McCallum. After spending some time at the Delaware Hospice Center, and witnessing the beauty of the facility and the staff members, Shane wanted to put on an art show to help offset his funeral costs and to support Delaware Hospice. “I just want to do good at the end of my life,” reflected Shane.

Through several odd jobs, a stint in the military, and a few college classes, Shane McCallum found his calling as an artist. Finding himself in trouble and in prison, Shane knew he had to find “something positive out of [his] hardship.” Shane turned to art as a positive outlet as he found solace through the experience of brush to canvas.

Shane’s art ranges in subject matter from a herd of elephants grazing on the grassland to a detailed depiction of trains in the train yard. The inspiration for his artwork stems from images he viewed in magazines and books. The use of bold colors and his zeal for each subject are his trademark. Notecards, posters, and original artwork will be for sale.

“The work that goes on all year round to prepare for the Festival of Trees is unbelievable,” said Peggy Dolby, Assistant Director of Development, for Delaware Hospice! “This is our most important fundraiser, which has grown over the past 29 years. This year promises to be an outstanding event thanks to our energetic and committed volunteers, as well as the support of the local businesses. So far, we will be exhibiting wreaths and trees, decorated by local artisans, in addition to our special events.”
