When I started transitioning in 2014, there were no resources for transgender persons in Sussex County. Even within the LGBT community, people understood lesbian, gay and bisexual, but transgender was something else. And being transgender is a unique experience for each person who experiences it. You feel alone. I know I did, to the point of being suicidal. But I wasn’t alone. I had CAMP Rehoboth, who stepped up to help the transgender community by developing programs and support groups for us. CAMP Rehoboth advocates and educates so that we don’t forget about the T in LGBT. If it weren’t for CAMP Rehoboth, I’m not sure that I would even be here today.
