The following letter was addressed to CAMP Rehoboth’s Fay Jacobs as thanks for a food collection drive Fay and Bonnie had at their Rehoboth home. The items collected, with assistance from Brian Hecksher of Auto Gallery, were donated to the Cape Henlopen Food Basket.
Thanks so much for the bounteous gift of foodstuffs we received on Saturday from CAMP Rehoboth’s food collection. We were able to fill in a lot of gaps on our shelves, especially our “free shelves”—where we allow clients to select a limited amount of items they desire.
As you are no doubt aware these are tough times for a lot of folks living on the edge economically. Most of our clients are those we have come to refer to as the “working poor.” And those of us who work here, and listen to the stories, know the wisdom in the Obama administration’s effort to tackle the health care issue. More often than not, it is some kind of medical emergency that does a family in.
In January and February of this year we served 477 families; representing 1413 individuals, 474 of whom were children. There were also 128 first time visitors.
Since we have to purchase our food supplies, albeit at reduced rates, in some instances, donations are what help to keep us afloat.
So, thanks again, and please convey our appreciation to Brian from Auto Gallery for the use of their truck, and his and his friend’s assistance in unloading. They were a huge help.
Keep up the good work.
Tom Starnes, President
Cape Henlopen Food Basket
