Gay Rodeo Stampedes into D.C. Suburbs |
by Alex Yearley |
Soon arriving to the Washington, D.C. area will be the Atlantic States Gay Rodeo Association annual weekend event, Atlantic Stampede 98. One of the best attended gay rodeos in the nation it is a great time to visit the nations capital. The rodeos are Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 3-4, beginning at 10 a.m. The Grand Entry is scheduled for noon both days. Events should be finished by 6 p.m. The rodeo site is the Montgomery County Agricultural Center at the fairgrounds in Gaithersburg, Maryland. Besides the rodeo events at the fairgrounds there will also be plenty of country-western dancing and entertainment in the afternoon. Many country-western vendors will also be at the rodeo site. Entry to the fairgrounds is $15 per person per day. In the evening the crowd moves downtown to the Hyatt Regency-Washington Hotel on Capitol Hill. Friday night before the rodeo will be the Stampede Jamboree, 9 p.m. - 2 a.m. Saturday night the fun begins with the Atlantic Coast Open Team Dance Competition at 8 p.m. Immediately following is the Harvest Moon Ball and Stampede Saloon as well as the Disco Cowboy Dance Party to keep everyone up until 2 a.m. Sunday evening the festivities conclude with the Awards Presentation at 8 p.m., followed by the Rawhide & Leather Dance to keep the survivors on their feet. The dances cost $15 each, but most people use the economical Weekend Pass for $45 which covers everything at both locations. Tickets are available at Lambda Rising in Baltimore and Washington or by phone through Box Office Tickets at 1-800-494-TIXS. It is a great deal of fun even for a rodeo novice. So pull those boots out of the closet and head to Washington for a country western weekend. Youre bound to see many familiar summer faces at Atlantic Stampede.
