Cafe Sole Shines Bright on a Rehoboth Winter |
by Fay Jacobs
Baltimore Avenues Caf Sole, a wonderful haven of fresh sandwiches, salads, and desserts, promises that its always a sunny day inside their sparkling clean and bright eatery. Not only are they right, but everyone who dines at Caf Sole takes the sunshine with themword of mouth about this place has been fantastic. In fact, well before I got a chance to check it out for myself, I knew I was in for a real treat. And after lunch last week, I can now spread some sunshine about the place myself. The first thing you have to know is that Caf Sole shies away from the mundane and makes an art of sandwich preparation. Youll think youre in some trendy European caf after tasting their Roasted Portabella Mushroom sandwich, served on folded flat bread with sauteed spinach, roasted red peppers, onions and chevre cheese. Also exotic and wonderful is the Roasted Eggplant and Mozzarella on flatbread with roasted red peppers. Or, for a unique and tasty combination, try the Cuban Mixpork tenderloin, ham, and cheddar on flatbread. The sandwiches come bursting with fresh ingredients and loads of flavor and are all priced between $5 and $6. If youre in the mood for turkey or tuna, try their Stuffertraditional without being the least bit dull. The Turkey Stuffer, with fresh roasted turkey, stuffing and cranberry, makes any day a day for thanksgiving! And all sandwiches are served with a garnish of black bean and roasted corn salada perfect companion to their sandwich selections. Which brings me to the saladswith several low fat and vegetarian choices. The menu boasts both a classic and Southwestern chicken salad, Mexican cole slaw, Oriental Noodle salad, Greek Pasta salad and their famed Marinated Portabella Mushroom salad. Cant decide? Caf Sole is wise to offer a 3-salad sampler ($5.95) or the 4-salad meal (a dollar more), as well as a Caesar Salad to which you may add chicken or portabella. If, like me, you cant resist an old-fashioned deviled egg, they are devilishly good for a snack and available on their lite fare menu for fifty cents. Also considered lite fare is the Sole hummus with pita. While we didnt get to sample any, weve heard "oohs" and "ahhs" all over Rehoboth about their Risotto and other chilly weather specialties. Looking for a low fat, healthy beverage? Try a Caf Sole Smoothiea blend of fruits, juices or milk, blended with ice. Depending on your mood, you can choose Strawberry Banana, Very Berry, Peaches & Cream, Mocha Java, Pina Colada or something called Tropical Breeze. They are $3.50 each, and for an additional fifty centsshould you need a real pick-me-upyou can add protein powder. As for dessert, one look at the luscious key lime pie, cheese cake and other goodies in the dessert case and youll be smitten. Having a party? Whole pies or cakes are available on request. And one of the best deals at Caf Sole is their "Frequent Customer" program. Just sign up, choose a category (salad, sandwich, smoothie or dessert), buy nine items and the tenth is on the house. Ive signed upand I know its a quick and enjoyable way for me to earn a free Cuban Mix! Much more instantly gratifying that earning frequent flyer miles! Stop by Caf Sole and start bringing a little sunshine into your lifeno matter what the weather man says! |
