Lesbian Health Initiative Update
Beginning in May of 1999 the Wellness Community - Delaware in conjunction with the Lesbian Health Initiative will be offering a new networking group for lesbians with cancer. The first group will be held on Thursday May 13, 1999 from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. and will be facilitated by Caroline MacMoran, MSN, a licensed psychotherapist with The Brandywine Center in North Wilmington. Historically lesbians have shied away from regular physical exams and other preventative care and are more likely to discover illnesses, including cancer, in later and more dangerous stages than their heterosexual peers. Additionally Lesbians sometimes don't get the emotional support needed as some health practitioners don't recognize or don't value their relationships, and because lesbians are often estranged from their families of origin. If you know of anyone who might be interested in attending this important group please give them this information so that they might attend. Front Runners Run the Beach The Washington, DC Front Runners is hosting informal weekly 3 to 4 mile fun runs in Rehoboth Beach this summer. Each Saturday from Memorial Day to Labor Day they will begin their run at 9:00 a.m. at the Boardwalk and Queen Street in front of Poodle Beach. After each run, some of the Front Runners stop for coffee on Baltimore Avenue, and they invite all runners or walkers from anywhere to join them. If anyone has any questions, contact Tom Seymour at 703-522-0830 in Virginia, or at 302-227-4367 in Rehoboth, or on-line at SEYMOURTL@AOL.COM. |
