BACHELOR AUCTION RAISES $26,001.
The Blue Moon Bachelor Auction held Saturday, June 16th raised a whopping $26,001breaking last year's record of $20,000. The entire amount will be donated to this year's LOVE dance benefit (see below). The Blue Moon staff and the Bachelor Auction committee would like to thank every volunteer, restaurant, bachelor and audience member (bidders included!) for making this event so incredibly successful. However, most of the praise should go to producer and emcee, Chris Riss, who spent countless hours recruiting bachelors, writing script and executing the show with perfection. Since the auction, Chris has been asked to replace retiring Ben Killebrew as this year's Auctioneer at SUNDANCE over Labor Day weekend. Congratulations, Chris! LOVE 2001. The 7th annual LOVE dance benefit is here! It's the dance event of July 4th weekend you won't want to miss! LOVE is Saturday, June 30th from 8 p.m. 2 a.m. at the Rehoboth Convention Center. Your ticket to LOVE will grant you admission to the "open bar" dance event featuring DJ Darryl Strickland. More importantly, your money will be donated to The Sussex County AIDS Committee (SCAC), CAMP Rehoboth, The Women's Project and Rehoboth Main Street. Tickets are $35 in advance and $45 at the door. You can purchase them at Lambda Rising, CAMP Rehoboth or from me on Poodle Beach. I heard through the grapevine that we should be on the dance floor between 11 p.m. and midnight for a special surprise! I'll be there, will you? MURRAY ARCHIBALD ART SHOW AT BLUE MOON. It wouldn't be summer at the beach without a new collection of paintings by Murray Archibald. If you haven't seen one of his shows yet, now's your chance. Starting July 6th through July 31st, Murray's newest collection, transFORMations, will be on display at the Blue Moon (35 Baltimore Ave). You are also invited to attend the opening reception at the Moon on Saturday, July 7th from 2 p.m. 4 p.m. Be sure to stop by! CAMP COVER CONTEST. CAMP Rehoboth wants YOU to be on the cover of the August 10th issue of Letters. You just have to get a group of your friends together, put your creative thinking caps on, and snap a wild and crazy photograph of yourselves. Your photo must be submitted as a color print preferably around 8" x 10", but no larger. Judging will be based on the "spirit of friendship, fun and camp," as well as on creativity, color and design. Winner gets on the cover of Letters. Runners up and specialty awards will also be published in the August 10th issue. Deadline: July 14th. Which beach houses are most likely to submit a photo? 312 Bayard, 707 Bayard, 1015 5th, 10 George, 312 Laurel, 321 Laurel, 515 School Lane and 22 Terrace to name a few. Who will win? The competition is fierce, especially with those nifty newcomers at 321 Laurel. Still, the lads and lassies at 515 School Lane won't let this opportunity pass by so easily. Cliff "call me an illusionist" Eyelash will most definitely want to follow up his August 5th "High School Homecoming" party with a little front-page recognition. But at this point, it's anybody's guess. The winner may surprise us all. LORI'S CAF COMES TO POODLE BEACH. How would you like to have lunch BROUGHT to you on Poodle Beach? You got it! Say goodbye to that long schlep down the boardwalk and say hello to Lori's Cafour lunchtime savior! All you have to do is drop by Lori's Caf (39 Baltimore Ave.) in the morning to place (and pay for) your lunch order, and Lori will deliver your food promptly at 1 p.m. on the Boardwalk at Prospect Street (right near the bike racks). Lori makes DELICIOUS sandwiches, including her famous Chicken Salad sandwich. Call 302-226-3066 for more information. BEACH BOOK PHONE DIRECTORY OUT NOW. If you haven't gotten your copy of this summer's Beach Book phone directory, be sure to stop by CAMP Rehoboth or Lambda Rising today! You can also look for me handing them out on Poodle Beach for a $1 donation to CAMP Rehoboth. REHOBOTH PRIDE PARADE. It doesn't exist yet, but maybe someday people will flock to Rehoboth to see a parade of floats coasting down Baltimore Avenue followed by a block party with guest speakers and celebrities. Can't you just see Gladys Kravitz waving from the Miss Rehoboth Pride float? All we need is an organization that will produce it. (Hint, hint, CAMP Rehoboth!) Tell CAMP Rehoboth what you think of a Rehoboth Pride parade. Send a letter to 39 Baltimore Ave, Rehoboth Beach, DE 19971 or e-mail editor@camprehoboth.com PARTY CALENDAR UPDATE. Finally, some house parties to sink your teeth into. You've all been asking, so here it goes... On Saturday, June 30th from 5 p.m. 8 p.m. you are invited to 322 Laurel for the "Ocean Blue: Blue Ball Kick-off" party. Nurse Cracker and her Philly boys will not only get you prepped for next January's Blue Ball, they'll warm you up for the big dance event that follows: LOVE 2001. Yes, it's all about LOVE on June 30th from 8 p.m. 2 a.m. Get your tickets before they sell out (available for $35 at Lambda Rising or CAMP Rehoboth). LOVE is being held at the Convention Center. It's "open bar" and will feature music by DJ Darryl Strickland. On July 7th from 8:30 11:30 p.m., join 312 Bayard for this summer's first big theme party, "Soul Train: 1977." These Richmond boys really know how to throw a party, and there isn't a better group that can set the tone for this summer's house party circuit. So find your "soul" and ease on down the road. This is one train you won't want to get off. HAPPY BIRTHDAY! To Ellyes Baghouli, who was born on June 14th weighing 7lbs, 8oz. Congratulations to proud parents, Alison Blyth & Adel Baghouli. Also celebrating are 1 Beachmark's John Swift; 116 Carolina's Frank Fico; 10 George's Eric Flail, 205 Hickman's Jim Higgins, and CAMP Rehoboth's Kathy Weir. Happy day to all! CHEERS! To The Purple Parrot restaurant/bar (247 Rehoboth Ave.) for receiving lots of beach buzz this summer as a Saturday night hot spot. When the buzz hits Poodle Beach, you know SOMETHIN'S going on! JEERS! To Genre Magazine for voting Muscle Beach "IN" and Rehoboth Beach "OUT." This is okay, though, because half the mid-Atlantic region is going to inadvertently forget to buy the next issue of...what was the name of that magazine? BEACH HOUSE OF THE WEEK: 1015 5th Street. In terms of party themes, this house takes the prize for creating some of the most outlandish titles ever: "Saving Ryan's Privates," in '98; "Nick at Nite: The X-Rated Version" in '99; and "Purgatory: Salvation or Sin" in 2000. Without delay, they just announced the theme for their upcoming August 18th event: "Space Cowboys: Ride or be Ridden." And of course, no beach house of the week would be complete without its very own website. Find them in cyberspace at www.RehobothBoys.com. WEEKEND "RAP-UP" The Bachelor Auction. It raised $26,001. It also raised the testosterone levels of every man in the audience thanks to bachelors Keegan Riotto, Craig Houghton, Dennis DiPalma, Chris Cahill, Marc Charon, Brad Richards, Garrett Randall, Greg Hussong, Joel Pearson, Bill Mucha, David Mazzoni, Alex Vendeti, Aubrey Bernard, Eric Levengood, Ed Win, Bruce Namerow, Paulo Motta, Andrew Criss, Seth Eaker and Rob Dick. The Gay Men's Chorus along with the Rainbow Chorale of Delaware had a sold out performance at the Convention Center. Meanwhile, the rain washed-out the Beach Essential's fashion show/fundraiser/party, which was held outside. Party-goers had no choice but to seek shelter elsewhere. It WOULD have been an incredible party, and we owe Greg Brown a huge "thanks" for putting it all together. Too bad Mother Nature didn't cooperate. There's no word yet on whether the Beach Essentials event will be rescheduled, but we can still shop there in the meantime. Stop by Beach Essentials (33 Baltimore Ave.) for all the latest fashions, including cool swimwear. Ricki Rutley knows how to put the "dance" in Tea Dance. Our beloved Miss Ricki had everyone moving to DJ Tommy Walton's beat, including 37 Quillen's Marvin Miller and Dan Kyle; 515 School Lane's Cliff Lassahn and Tom Kantor; 3 Brigantine's Gary Fisher and Jeff Heebner; Bayard's Scott Marker and Stuart Ortel and many more. Again, Yum Yum tea is the place to be on Sunday from 5 p.m. 8 p.m. Look for a special "Red, White & Blue" Yum Yum tea, Wednesday, July 4th from 5 p.m. 8 p.m. with DJ's Rob & Wade.
