Experience Something New at the Wellness Extravaganza! |
by Fay Jacobs |
Feeling stressed? In need of a massage or a footsoak? Just want to know what some of the latest alternative medicine ideas are really about?
Perhaps you want to find out what Pranic Healing (an ancient science and art of healing that utilizes prana or life energy to heal the whole physical body) is all about. Or, learn the difference between acupuncture and acupressure. Janice Mann, proprietor of the local Lifeforce Massage and Wellness Center has put her entrepreneurial energy into organizing the first annual Midsummer Night's Wellness Extravaganza. "People are warming up to alternative and complementary medicine. They especially like reiki energy work, massage and ear candling...but other favorites are acupressure, reflexology and acupuncture." Even people who have shied away from some of these alternative therapies are getting on the bandwagon. And for newcomers, or the curious among us, Janice and her colleagues have planned a fabulous way to get a taste of these new therapies and find out if you would benefit from them. The First Annual Midsummer Night's Wellness Extravaganza will be held on Saturday, July 20 at the Rehoboth Beach Convention Center, from noon to 8 p.m. Here's how it all works: Tickets are on sale at both Lifeforce Massage and Wellness Center and the Camp Rehoboth office. For $30 ($39 at the door) you can participate in six mini-sessions of alternative heath services. You can sample chiropracty, naturopathy, chair massage, back massage, neck massage, foot massage, herbal footsoaks and rubs, reflexology, reiki energy work, polarity energy work, acuppressure, acupuncture, hot stone massage, personal training, astrology readings, energy readings (auric and pranic), paraffin wax treatments, ear candling and more! Close to 30 practitioners will be participating in the day-long event, with anticipated ticket sales of about 1000. "Ticket sales are going great. We are limiting the count to 1000 people only so we don't wear down the therapists...and we are convinced we will sell out or close to it," says Janice Mann. The practitioners involved (people with lots of initials after their names) include: Chris Baldt, DC, Long Neck Chiropractic; Gertie Hillman, RN, Nutrition the Key to Life; Kim Furtado, ND, Local Naturopath, Loretta McDonald, reflexologist/acupressurist; Sally Laux, MAc, RN; Barbara Donelan, MAc; Paul and Michelle Schnupp, LifeFitness Personal Trainers, Andrew Lunn, CMT; Allisson Passwaters, LMT; Diana Saraceno, CMT; Lois Walner, CMT; Judy Nelson, LMT; Linda Lowrey, LMT; Stephan Cameron, LMT; Wendy Booro, CMT; Janice Mann, LMT, Reikimaster; Ruth Harrington, Reikimaster; Lasondra, Reikimaster; Jim McKnight, pranic/auric reader; Ciro DeLucia, pranic/auric reader; Catherine the astrologer from Manhattan; Bobbi Brittingham, Tarot reader from Salisbury; Stephen Cummings, LMT; Anna Corson, CMT; Maureen Greene, LMT; and Janice Johnson, Polarity Therapist. What is Polarity Therapy? Polarity therapy asserts that all dimensions of Human Energy must function without any blockage caused by stress or trauma. It's a theory similar to "chakras" or Oriental acupressure meridians. Blockages can cause ailments from minor to life-threatening, so Polarity Therapy is used as a preventative treatment. It often incorporates exercises based on yoga and martial arts to balance the human energy fields. Additionally, there may be dietary guidelines and yoga routines for internal cleansing. Polarity Therapy is very much focused on people taking responsibility for their own health-something all of us should embrace. Want to know more? Polarity experts will be at the Convention Center on July 20. With over 40 different alternative health therapies in common practice, this Wellness Extravaganza will introduce you to therapies you may not have heard of before. Take ear-candling. Ear Candling is not a new alternative therapy. Dating back to the year 2500 B.C. there is evidence that people used and were familiar with the practice of ear candling. Today, as in ancient times, ear candles are handmade from beeswax and unbleached cotton cloths. Through a process called "convection"...softer waxes and toxins will be drawn out of the ear, oxidized and turned into vapors during the procedure. Many people are discovering Ear Candling to cleanse the ear canal and sinus passages. This Wellness Extravaganza has got to be the perfect way to investigate some of these very popular alternative therapies, meet compatible practitioners and find out just what kind of therapy can be helpful. So how did this all come about? Janice Mann is the first to admit that she decided that a way to bring success to her Wellness Center was to help educate the public. "What way would be better than to give them the opportunity to try different modalities? So, it began as a small vision and quickly outgrew the garden and now we are in the convention center," says Janice. A portion of the proceeds from the day will go to Silent Sirens Inc, a non-profit 501(c)(3) corporation providing charitable and educational services like subsidized scholarships for workshops, seminars and healing bodywork in the community. The Wellness Extravaganza will also offer food sales by caterers Teri and Sean Dolan of La Piccola Cuchina (The Little Kitchen). There will be a homemade baked ziti dinner with gravy, salad and garlic bread, plus cold drinks, popcorn, hot dogs, veggie dogs and more.
