It was quite a show! CAMP Rehoboth Follies 2006 featured emcee and host Christopher Peterson offering a new persona and new material; community members showcasing their varied talents and auction items that were much in demand. "Diversity on display" really could have been the subtitle for the CAMP Rehoboth Follies. From the Barbie awards (Gold, Silver and Bronze), through the individual acts and the auction items to the audience, the entire community was well represented. With entertainment value, creativity and staging as the criteria for a coveted Barbie award, community members went all out. The skit, Rehomoback Mountain, had love, loss and lust. Victoria's Secrets took us back to those lazy, hazy days of summers past, as only our community could. We even had a Follies first, a rock opera. (I must admit that my own personal favorite was a salute to menopause offered by the Schnauzer-haven Gang.) I found it difficult to determine who enjoyed the show more, the audience or the cast. It was a good time Saturday night! Next year, you may want to give it a try. You'll need a skit idea, a few friends and acquaintances who can design a set, dig up costumes, learn their lines and/or carry a tune. Remember that good "behind the scenes" people are just as valuable as those in front of the audience. You will enjoy the camaraderie and your efforts will raise money to further support the community. Recently, a dear friend of mine was lamenting his lack of companionship by saying, "Why can't I meet anyone?" I said, "You have to leave your house!" Yes, it was a bit harsh but I must say that I stand by my answer. If your life isn't all you want it to be, there are two things you can do. Do something for yourself get out and be with other people; laugh and enjoy the company of others. Do something for othersmany organizations serving the Rehoboth Beach area base their existence on the support of volunteers. Spend a half a day a month delivering Meals on Wheels; shelve books for the library; volunteer at Beebe Medical Center, or (shameless self promotion) help CAMP Rehoboth with a mailing or special event, lead a book discussion group or cycling club. Do it because that's what a community is all about. I bet the connections make you feel better and a lot of folks will be grateful for your contribution. Founders' Circle Five weeks! That's how much time you have left to join the Founders' Circle Capital Campaign. To date, $1,120,323.60 has been pledged with $853,854.30 of those pledges being fulfilled. The CAMP Rehoboth board of directors joins me in offering thanks to all who have become recent members of the Founders' Circle, upgraded their original pledge, or made a pledge payment. Please consider joining the more than 800 members who are your friends and neighbors. Think about giving an honorary membership in the Founders' Circle to a family member or friend. Host a summer party and ask for a donation to be made to CAMP Rehoboth in lieu of a host/hostess gift. You will be making an investment in our community, plus it's a great tax deduction. CAMP Rehoboth is a 501(c)(3) organization and contributions are tax deductible to the fullest extent of the law. Remember, this isn't a dress rehearsal. This is your life. Be sure you are living it the way you want and sharing it with those you love. Pledge Form available in PDF format HERE Beth Fitton is Development Director at CAMP Rehoboth.
