Ahhh, the shoulder season! That's what the tourism industry calls the weeks before and after the high season. I think of it as breathing space here at CAMP Rehoboth. Don't get me wrongI love the energy of a Rehoboth Beach summer with its events, parties and visitors. I get to see folks that I've missed seeing for months. However, now I am really enjoying the opportunity to plan and execute rather than just hanging on for the ride. CAMP Rehoboth has just sponsored and assisted with the YMCA Block Party on Baltimore Avenue and the Meals on Wheels Celebrity Chefs' Beach Brunch. The Block Party was a lot of fun with restaurants providing food, artists offering unique pieces ranging from beautiful photographs to jewelry and lots of entertainment for the children. The Celebrity Chef's Beach Brunch was held at the Bay Center in Dewey Beach again this year and was, once again, a smash hit. The food prepared by local and area chefs is superb; the wonderful ambiance created is the result of the exceptional view and the fabulous decorations provided by the chefs and restaurants participating and the auction items, generously donated by local merchants and friends, add still more drama to the event. Now having spent a paragraph telling you about the events themselves, I don't want us to forget about what these organizations do for our community. Remember, CAMP Rehoboth works with other community organizations because we can not Create A More Positive Rehoboth alone. The YMCA event raised money for the Strong Kids Campaign, providing funds for kids who may not have an opportunity to be involved in Y programs without assistance. The programs provide positive choices and group activities aimed at fostering contributing members to our community. The Meals on Wheels event provides funding for a nutritious midday meal for anyone unable to prepare a meal for themselves. In the upcoming weeks, we will look forward to seeing our friends and neighbors at the Rehoboth Beach Jazz Festival, the Rehoboth Beach Film Festival, World AIDS Day, and the Community Unity Dinner. (Remember to save December 3 from 4 to 7 p.m. for the Community Unity DinnerCAMP Rehoboth is in charge of the desserts and we love to see you there!) Founders' Circle While the Founders' Circle Capital Campaign has come to a close for new memberships, this does not prevent members from adding or upgrading their own memberships. In fact, quite a few of you have asked the question and have made the upgrade. The result is that our current totals stand at $1,293,926.60 pledged with $944,589.80 of those pledges being fulfilled. The board of directors and staff join me in extending a heartfelt thank you to all of you. Pledge Form available in PDF format HERE Beth Fitton is Development Director at CAMP Rehoboth.
