The Another Take film series brings a special selection of GLBT films to our community. Take advantage of the long holiday weekend to see a few films that won't be coming to a theater near us. Three films will be shown Friday, February 16 through Sunday, February 18. All screenings will be held in the Upstairs Screening Room at the Movies at Midway. Kick off the weekend fun on Friday, February 16 at 7:00 p.m. with What's Up, Scarlet? Scarlet has to put up with her brother Ben, a pot-smoking, unemployed lawyer. Ben becomes furious when Scarlet unknowingly sets him up with a porno star. When Sabrina Fisser, a homeless foreign actress rear-ends her on a calm, sunny afternoon, Scarlet offers this seemingly helpless vagabond a place to stay for one night. One night becomes an eternity as the free spirited Sabrina overstays her welcome. When vengeful Ben tries to seduce Sabrina, Scarlet finds herself protective of her new friend. A mutual attraction develops and the two unlikely characters explore the uncharted territory of unexpected love. 2005, runtime: 84 minutes, not rated Another Take continues Saturday, February 17, at 2:00 p.m. with Camp Out, a feature documentary film that follows ten Midwestern teenagers as they attend the first overnight Bible Camp for gay Christian youths. For these six boys and four girls, it's just as hard to come out as Christian as it is to come out as gay. They're caught in the battle between religion, politics and sexuality that's raging in the United States today. These kids are outsiderstheir straight classmates ostracize them and their churches reject them. But like all teens, they yearn to feel at home, somewhere. Struggling to find a way to be true to both their spirituality and their sexual identity, these teens come to camp hoping to finally find a place of acceptance. 2006, runtime: 78 minute, not rated End the weekend with a Coffee Date, at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 18. Straight guy Todd goes on a blind date with a gay man, Kelly (Wilson Cruz from Noah's Arc and My So-Called Life), the result of a practical joke played by his brother, Barry. To Todd's surprise, he and Kelly strike up a friendship. They decide to take revenge on Barry by reversing the joke. After their date, the pair saunters past Barry holding hands. The joke works too well. Freaking out and convinced that Todd is gay, Barry calls their mother (Sally Kirkland) to break the news. Concerned, she arrives on the next plane. Despite his vehement denials, Mom now sees Todd's love of movies and theater, as well as his lack of interest in sports, as clear signs she's previously missed. She is determined to prove to her son that she loves him no matter what. Nothing Todd says or does can convince her that he's actually straight! Soon, everyone in his life believes he is gay. His frantic attempts to prove his heterosexuality with a sexy younger woman end in disaster. He starts to wonder, could his feelings for Kelly be more than he'd ever suspected? 2006, runtime: 94 minutes, not rated Tickets are $5.00 and can be purchased by calling RBFS at 302-645-9095.
