Relax...You're at the Beach
Don't let this happen to you! Here it is July 4th weekend and I still haven't made it to the beach this summer. When I moved here, I swore I wouldn't let it happen to me but here I am. Work, questionable weather and having had to leave Rehoboth Beach for an entire weekend have created the problem. (I shouldn't complain about the weekend away as it was to the Billie Joel concert in Virginia Beach.) Here's a sad truth. I love being in Rehoboth Beach in the summer so much, that I become resentful if any family members or friends schedule a wedding between June and September. One of my favorite things about going to the beach is the restorative powers of the ocean itself. In the past, I could sit looking at the water for twenty minutes and feel like I had had a day off. It is odd that when you live here, it takes longer for the same effect to kick in. I'm glad that while other people are complaining about the crowds and traffic in the summer, I truly like the energy that the tourists bring. Also, I recognize that the local merchants, who I count on, couldn't possibly stay in business without the visitors to Rehoboth Beach. Plus, it is good for the economy of the City. I enjoy all the events and happenings that Rehoboth Beach offers in the summer. From Follies to Sundance, picnics on the beach to art openings, cookouts to pool parties, it's great fun. In fact, in some ways staying in Rehoboth Beach in the summer is better than vacation because you get to do all the fun things with your friends. Apparently, the latest summer entertainment in the CAMP Rehoboth Courtyard is construction worker watching. I've observed that guys stopping by to get a sandwich and cold drink from Lori's may stay for a two-hour event as construction on the new wing is in full swing. (It must be their interest in engineering and equipment that has them so mesmerized, don't you think?) Construction is moving along on schedule. The building is under roof and now the electricians, plumbers, and drywall folks can do their thing rain or shine. Why not stop by the CAMP Rehoboth Courtyard for a first-hand look at the progress? Now that the summer is in full swing, be sure that you have July 26, August 30 and 31 reserved on your calendar for CAMP Rehoboth Follies and the Sundance weekend, respectively. Literally hundreds of volunteers work along with CAMP Rehoboth staff on these events to assure that we all will have a great night of entertainment. Remember, you won't feel a part of the community until you become a part of the community. You can volunteer to help with events, become a sponsor, buy tickets, or make a contribution. We have some very dedicated supporters who do all of the above. All of us at CAMP Rehoboth are immensely grateful for their contribution.
