Art's Happening All Over Town
This column is so full, I can only say you should examine it carefully, gentle readers. All locations are Rehoboth Beach, unless otherwise noted. THEATRE Clear Space Productions (in residence at Cape Henlopen High School, 1250 Kings Highway in Lewes; 302-644-3810; ClearSpaceProductions.org) Sussex County's only year-round, professional theatre company will present the classic family musical Oliver! at the new Epworth United Methodist Church on Holland Glade Road (just behind Tomato Sunshine) from July 23-26. Delaware Comedy Theatre (delawarecomedytheatre.com) presents The 1944 Firehouse Murder Mystery to benefit the Bethany Beach Volunteer Firehouse on July 25. Milton Theatre (110 Union Street in Milton; 302-684-3400; mdc@snip.net; miltontheatre.org) features Bill Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream: July 24August 2. Possum Point Players (441 Old Laurel Road in Georgetown; 302-856-4560/302-856-3460; possumpointplayers.org) presents James and the Giant Peach: July 22-26. The show is presented by the Possum Jr. group and directed by Peyton Lynch. Tickets are $8; $7 Students/Seniors. Auditions for An Inspector Calls will be held at 6:30 p.m. on July 19-20 at Possum Hall. Written by J. B. Priestley and directed by George Spillane, the cast calls for three women and four men: a mature couple, their ingnue daughter, two men in their 20s to early 30s, and the inspector and maid, who can be any age. Theatre of the Arts (20 Baltimore Avenue; 302-227-9310; RehobothBeachTheatre.com) welcomes Masters of Mental Magic with Bastille & Kaya. The show features hypnotism, mental magic, super extra sensory abilities, mind reading and more! 8 p.m. every Wednesday: July 22-September 9 with the occasional Friday show. Christopher Peterson has returned with his all-new Christopher Peterson's EYECONSLas Vegas or Bust through Labor Day weekend. A show no one should miss! GALLERIES and MUSEUMS AerieArt Gallery (45 1/2 Lake Avenue and 70 Rehoboth Avenue in First St. Station; 302-227-5376; rehoboth.com/aerieart) Newly acquired works are on display by renowned local artist Howard Schroeder (1910-1995), as well as a selection of other fine original paintings spanning 150 years. Recently completed original oils and watercolors also are available by gallery artists Denise Dumont, Victor Letonoff, Lesley McCaskill, Martha Spak, and Karin Snoots. The Lake Avenue gallery continues to feature Delmarva Peninsula Panoramas, original paintings by New York artist Larry Horowitz. The First Street Station gallery will feature Recurrent Dreams: The Paintings of Edward Grant (1907-1998) through July. Coming in August to the Lake Avenue gallery: Coastal Colors by Great Falls, Virginia artists Mollie Lynch Vardell and Adrienne Kralick; and to the First Street Station, Surface to Space by Salisbury University professors Alison Chism (glass), Paul Flexner (painting), Dean Peterson (photography), Jinchul Kim (painting), James Hill (sculpture) and Brooke Rogers (drawing). Amandeline Galleries (403 Rehoboth Avenue; 302-226-0330; amandelinegallery. com) presents an extensive collection of artwork by Anne Packard. After 45 years of artistry and more than 2,000 paintings, her rich, sparse landscapes, inspired by the view of Provincetown Harbor from the window of her home, are beloved by countless admirers. BASE (Baltimore Avenue Studios En Masse; 20 Rehoboth Avenue; 302-227-7303; BASEartists.com) is a collection of three large, working-artist studios hosting eleven different visual artists. The space allows visitors to witness the visual art creation process and engage in dialogue with the artist about their process. Works are also on display by each artists and available for purchase. Detail Gallery (54 Baltimore Avenue; 302-227-8170; shopdetail.com) features The Really BIG Mirabelle Show through July, inspired by the Detail Gallery Mascot: Mirabelle, the Boston terrier. Detail Gallery has invited their collection of artists to create their own interpretation of Mirabelle, and all works are on exhibit and for sale. Tempus Fugit works by Arizona artist Rose MinettiJuly 24-August 19 with an artist's reception on Saturday July 25, 6-9 p.m. Heidi Lowe Gallery (328 Rehoboth Avenue; 302-227-9203; heidilowegallery @gmail.com) is hosting a trunk show on Saturday, July 25 from 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Matt Galob is bringing vintage cuts, fancy cuts and diamonds in all colors all the way from Dallas. Owner Heidi Lowe will be there to design those special pieces. Check out the bling! Panache Gallery (129-B Rehoboth Avenue; 302-227-9229; panachegalleryde.com) showcases the meditative quality of exquisitely stacked glass stones, which exhibit a sense of balance and strength. Peninsula Gallery (520 E. Savannah Rd in Lewes; 302-645-0551; peninsula-gallery. com) features a new group show entitled By the Water's Edge with works by Stephen Brehm, John Klomp, Julie Molyneux, Brian Murphy, David Nibouar, and Nick Serratore. Through July 28. Philip Morton Gallery (47 Baltimore Avenue; 302-727-0905; philipmortongallery. com) Time Rideoriginal abstract works by New York artist, Mariah Feethrough July 23. Opening Friday, August 7, new, original paintings by Anita Peghini-Rber, with an Opening Reception from 5-8 p.m.through August 20. Rehoboth Beach Museum (302-227-7310; M-F 10-4/ Weekends 11-3) features fun exhibits of vintage postcards, bathing suits, and sand pails, as well as an exhibit on loan from the Delaware Public Archives featuring letters written to a Delaware journalist from Delaware soldiers fighting in the Vietnam War. Museum weekend Gala celebrations with two exciting evening events: Live and silent auctions of great items including chandeliers, a painting by Howard Schroeder, jewelry and a trip to Newport, Rhode Island: Friday, July 31; 7-10 p.m. at the Rehoboth Beach Theater of the Arts (see above). Cash Bar. Tickets: $25. Also on Saturday, August 1st from 7-10 p.m. at the Kings Creek Country Club with live music, a silent auction and delicious food. Tickets: start at $100. Thunderbird Gallery (200 Rehoboth Avenue; 302-227-1900; thunderbirdshop.com) welcomes world-renowned flute player Jeff Ball performing live the evening of July 25. Jeff debuts his new CD Ghost Town at the concert. Free: 7 p.m. The Thunderbird also represents artist Thom Millsap, whose whimsical beach scenes are both vibrant and fun. Thom will be doing a one-man show July 31-August 1. Ward Ellinger Gallery (CAMP Rehoboth Courtyard, 39 Baltimore Avenue; 302-227-2710; wardellinger.com) presents Colors of Life by Ward Ellingernew, bold abstract art painted in stark, contrasting colors showing the many patterns of our progression through the mystery of life. Also available are eco-friendly art tables made from recycled farm equipment and works by several talented glass blowers.
