On behalf of the Board of Trustees, staff and volunteers of the Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition, and the thousands of people we serve, we would like to thank CAMP Rehoboth for the gift to the Broadwalk on the Boardwalk. The contribution ensures that we are able to fulfill our mission and meet our goals in the fight against breast cancer.
Gifts enable DBCC to enhance and expand the life-saving programs of awareness, education, outreach, and support services that serve to facilitate the early detection and effective treatment of breast cancer in Delaware and our surrounding communities. DBCC’s peer mentoring programs, including our clinical trial initiatives, provide valuable resources for those newly diagnosed or facing recurrence, and our outreach programs address the needs of diverse and underserved communities. In addition, our Annual Breast Cancer Update features experts in the field of medicine and medical research and provides a platform from which we strive to educate survivors, medical professionals, caregivers and the public about the issues and progress in breast cancer detection and treatment.
Breast cancer has reached epidemic proportions and the statistics relating to breast cancer remain alarming. In 2009, over 600 women and men were diagnosed with breast cancer in Delaware, and approximately 110 died from the disease (American Cancer Society, 2009). The Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition remains the only organization in the State of Delaware focused solely on breast health issues facing women and men.
Thank you for joining us in the fight against breast cancer!
