After graduate school, Judiths interest in impressionist painting took her to Provincetown, MA where she has spent several summers painting and studying. Her work is playful, bold, and whimsical. She simplifies and abstracts as she captures the atmosphere and light of her subject. Judith works in a variety of mediums: oil, pastel, pencil, and charcoal, but is most prolific with watercolor. Whether it be the vibrant whimsy of a coastal resort, a rediscovered mill town, or a familiar amusement park, her work remains heavily swayed by impressionism.
"Theres a wonderful feeling that comes over me," she said, " when I do a study and what I am putting down on the canvas really seems to truly capture the feeling that space creates. The key to my painting is that I am painting the light on the scene. When I paint, I become so absorbed in the landscape that I feel in harmony with the place Im painting. I paint to capture a personal memory so that upon viewing my work I can reawaken that memory."
Judiths works show her willingness to embrace life and her surroundings. There is a simple freshness, a clarity of color, and a serenity to them. One is rarely just a spectator when viewing Judiths work, rather one is drawn into musing about the lives which have shaped that scene and the involvement of the artist.
