Ball in socket
lock and key
tongue in groove
Burnished silver spoons
bending into one another
we share space, form
And function
two equal pieces
of one weight-bearing
Invention at night
under a blanket
of sheltering darkness
Pulled up close
to capture our fleeting
oneness to preserve
The fit
the temporal balance
until morning

Promise Dries Off
He could be the swim by brothers Ive never had A breakfast brushing and a closer splash Or towels like fountains Up in the air or down my walls He could make sense of my stories
But no matter how many times Ive heard him No matter how far a good view stretches or the sun bends Ive hardly the means to listen For wet feet
Just as well then That morning is white as distance That promise dries off to breathe That strangers slip away under water
--Hiram Larew
