Summer Reading And Some Are Not |
Can you believe it? The summer has barely started and already our regular book reviewer, Constant Reader, seems to have changed her name to Occasional Reader. Although her library card is full, she didnt finish her homework assignment on time, so we dont have a full book review for you this issue. But we have something even better...a column chock full of beach read ideas! After all, we couldnt leave you without any book guidance on the 4th of July weekend. You have enough to worry about selecting restaurants, outfits, hair styles, and the like to worry about what to read.
First stop in at "Reading Matters" (205 Rehoboth Avenue), where they have a mesmerizing selection of new and previously read books, including a whole section of must-read paperbacks. They are so well priced that even the most thrifty of you can fill up your backpack and head to the beach with enough reading to get you through the weekend. Or, check out the fabulous mags and wonderful selection of books. Its a great place to browse and stock up on those hard-to-find titles. Over at Lambda Rising (39 Baltimore Avenue) check out the new "Great Beach Reads" section. Talk about making it easy for you...nearly three dozen fun books you should read on the beach all in one convenient place! Plus, the staff invites you to add your own favorites to the collection. On tap this week are such beach classics as Leslea Newmans Out of the Closet and Nothing to Wear, Michael Thomas Fords over-the-top best seller Alec Baldwin Doesnt Love Me, anything by Mabel Maney (her Nancy Drew parodies are too priceless!), Breakfast with a Cereal Killer, Lambda Award winning books such as Bending the Landscape and Memory Mambo, plus many more. If that doesnt work for you, theres always the New Books section. This now features Vanitas, the latest from Joe Olshan (Nightswimmer), Switch, (from Carol Guess, author of of Seeing Dell), Awakening Virgin, Clive Barkers Galilee, new mysteries from Richard Stevenson (Stracheys Folly) and Mark Zubro (Are You Nuts?), as well as Daniel Pecks latest, Now Its Time to Say Goodbye, and a beautiful photo book called Women in Love. Of course, you can also choose from the Best Sellers or one of the many other sections, from nearly 3,000 book titles in all. And when youre done with all your reading, head back to "Reading Matters," because theyll buy your now-read books back from you and you can re-invest in new ones. Is that cool or what? Happy reading! |
