The Dream Cafe, 26 Baltimore Avenue, Rehoboth, is currently housing an exhibit of the photographs of Sharon Gervasoni, a fine art photographer from Takoma Park, Maryland. Ms. Gervasonis work has been shown in various venues in the Washington, D.C. area. Earlier this year she curated the "INTERIORity," a show featuring work by members of the Triangle Artists Group. Her primary subject is landscapes, in both black-and-white and color. The prints being shown currently at the Dream Cafe are made with a medium format camera producing a 2 1/4 inch square negative. This larger negative captures more detail than 35mm, and allows for the clarity and rich detail she strives for in her prints. Sharon produces her prints in the photography lab at the Smithsonian Institution. Her prints will be on display at the Dream Cafe through mid June. Currently at The Back Porch Cafe South African artist Chad Chamier is holding an exhibition of his work. The showing of paintings hangs through June. There are twenty-two works in the exhibition, eighteen on canvas and four on paper. Chamier, an expressionist, works in a pallette of brilliant colors. His abstract images are charged with energy and emotion. Many of the paintings are figurative, while others are composition of shape and color. This is the second exhibition of Chamiers work at the Back Porch Cafe. Last year Chamier also had the opening show for the Back Porch Cafe, which was a success. Chad resides in Newport, Rhode Island with his American wife. He landed in America after sailing about the world for ten years. He comments, "Having the freedom of movement and the space of a studio allows me to venture into different canvas sizes and exploration into different mediums. Not only that, thoughts on the ocean and on land differ, the subconscious mind is far more active on land than at sea, a great influence on my painting. I look forward to venturing into different mediums over the next few years." Chamier has held two successful shows of his work in Newport, RI and Manchester, VT since his last showing in Rehoboth Beach. Carltons of Rehoboth Beach is proud to present one of their own as their artisan of the week, Edward Duvall. Edward has worked for Carltons for nearly four years, and is responsible for most of their wonderful interior displays and window designs. Edwards work will be featured from May 30 through June 7, and is available at Carltons all year long. Edward is originally from Harrisburg, PA. After spending most of his adult life in Philadelphia and South Florida, he has become a year-round resident in Sussex County. As a teenager Edward prepared himself for a career in some phase of the Arts. As an adult, though, life took him in other directions and his talent remained on the sidelines for many years. Inspired by a friends artistic endeavors, Edward has now begun to paint again. For the most part Edward enjoys decorative painting using wood objects such as boxes, plaques, stools and furniture. Edward prefers using acrylic as opposed to oils. |
