Fall Film Fantasy Fest Planned for Rehoboth |
Even though the summer season is just starting, you should mark your calendars now for an exciting addition to Rehoboths cultural scene this fall. From November 13-15, 1998, all 6 screens of the Rehoboth Mall Cinema will be ablaze with the inaugural Rehoboth Beach Independent Film Festival. More than 90 film programs are planned, featuring films from around the world and from national, regional and local filmmakers as well. Films will be chosen to reflect the diversity of our community in the Rehoboth area, and will be offered in programs of features and shorts in many film genres. Additionally, filmmakers and others in the film industry will be on hand to offer lectures and public discussion of their films, and video programs are slated for in-town. A Gala kick-off event will be held on Thursday, November 12 at the Bottle n Cork with filmmakers and other luminaries. The festival will close with another great Gala on Sunday, November 15. "Its been remarkable to see the progress weve made in the past 6 months," says Rob Rector, President of the Rehoboth Beach Film Society, which he and friends Tom and Patti Shreeve launched last fall. It was the goal of these three to produce a festival, and watching this dream come to life has been, well, a dream come true. "We are working with filmmakers and distributors around the world, excellent films are arriving for us to review, and the support from individuals and the business community has been overwhelming," says Rob. Recently, information was mailed to hundreds of local businesses outlining ways for them to get involved. If you have not received such information, would like to find out more about the festival, or wish to submit a film, please call the Festival Hotline at 302-226-3744, or write to Rehoboth Beach Independent Film Festival, P.O. Box 1132, Rehoboth Beach DE 19971. The festival is being produced under the auspices of Barry Becker, who co-founded and produced Washington, DCs highly successful gay and lesbian film festival from 1991 through 1995. |
