Letters to LETTERS |
Dear Steve,
On Saturday, May 2, close to 160 individuals showed their support for establishing professional Equity Theater in southern Delaware by attending the Henlopen Theater Projects first fund-raiser at the home of Ron Borders. This event went a long way toward not only raising approximately $5,500important funds for the projectbut also raising the publics awareness to this initiative. The project has three phases: 1) to raise $250,000 by January 1, 1999, to bring distinguished actors and directors to southern Delaware to perform at the Little Theater at Cape Henlopen High School; 2) to create a permanent theater on an ongoing basis; 3) and, to create a permanent performing arts center for Sussex County. The goal of the project is to provide education in the arts to residents and visitors of all ages. I wish to publicly thank the many people who, through their generosity, made our first fund-raiser such a great success: Ron Borders for the use of his beautiful home; Joyce Felton of the Blue Moon Restaurant for providing the food in an incredible display of culinary mastery and professional, courteous servers; Milt Graves for providing the beverages which allowed us to offer attendees an open bar; Jim Beauter of Bayberry Flowers for a beautiful floral arrangement; Peggy Raley for her vocal artistry, accompanied by the wonderful music of Eclypse; our many volunteers; and most especially Sam Profeta, the chairperson of this event. The outpouring of support for the project has been gratifying and an omen of great things to come. Thanks to Jack and Susan Daggett and Joe Reed of RE/MAX Realty, the Henlopen Theater Project has established a temporary office at RE/MAX Realty Rentals at 323A Rehoboth Avenue, Rehoboth Beach. Please call the office at 226-4103 or Bill Rable at 226-0891, if you would like more information on the project. Bringing "Broadway to the Beach" is truly a community project. Sincerely, Helen Pelikan, Chairperson Henlopen Theater Project Dear CAMP Rehoboth, I wanted to write this letter to thank you for publishing a magazine that has helped me a great deal. It is very informative and really helps a newcomer like myself see all the things that Rehoboth has to offer. I live in Salisbury and dont always find lots of time to make it there, but I am going to start changing that. I just wanted to write and express some thoughts. Im 34 years old and came out over a year ago; this last year has been a real learning experience. I never dreamed I could be this happy, but it was like a cancer lifted out of my body. My family and friends are 100% supportive of me and wish me the best for the future. My parents are even hoping that I one day will find a good man to share my life with, what more could I ask for? Thats why this publication is so important, because it educates and informs people like me who are new to all of this. One other thing, we need more support groups out there to help people who are scared and dont have anyone to talk to. Coming out can be a very scary thing and it helps to have educated people who know and understand what that person is going through. So, keep up the good work. Thanks, Keith Schumaker Dear Steve, On behalf of the Sussex County AIDS Committee (SCAC), I would like to thank you for the extensive coverage given to SCAC activitiesand indeed, the events of many local AIDS organizationsin each issue of LETTERS From CAMP Rehoboth. In each issue, you print one of our advertisements for HIV testing. As you know, SCAC offers free, anonymous HIV tests at the SCAC office each Thursday afternoon, from 4:00 to 6:00 PM. This program is offered through a collaboration with Kent County Counseling. When SCAC put together a consistent advertising plan for the service (including ads in LETTERS), we saw a three-fold increase in the numbers of persons coming in for testing. Numbers like this one certainly show the power of the press! LETTERS also carries articles about SCAC programs and fund-raisers. Whether we are announcing a new program or wanting to promote an upcoming fund-raiser, LETTERS is an effective way to get the word out to the community. Right now we are finalizing the plans for the benefit concert being performed for SCAC by the Gay Mens Chorus of Washington, DC. The concert will be held on Saturday evening, June 27th, at the Rehoboth Beach Convention Center. Tickets will cost $15.00. As press releases are sent out about the concert, you can bet that LETTERS will be at the top of the list! By including such information, your publication becomes a valuable resource for the community. There are many times in which someone will call about an event or a service and say "I read about it in LETTERS!" Keep up the good work! Sincerely, Glen C. Pruitt Executive Director Sussex County AIDS Committee Dear Steve and Murray, Ron and I just learned that you have an e-mail address and a web page. Congratulations. Rehoboth is certainly part of the times. We are happy here in Santa Fe, NM, but miss our friends and old haunts in Rehoboth. Hope all is well. We do not expect to be there this summer, but perhaps next summer. Take care, and best of luck, Joe Gonzalez and Ron Young Please contact us to submit your letter to the editor. Include your name and phone number. Letters may be edited for length and clarity. |
